Wow, what a prick. Seriously going the extra mile to call someone out for using a minor Americanism. Passive aggressive head. “But I don’t understaaaand… please explain!”

They do similar with any expression eg a Scottish/ Irish expression - that is 100% clear from context what it is. Or something that is part of a particular, local dialect. I can't think of any examples offhand but have definitely seen it happen.

And when it has been fully beaten to bits on the thread, yet another cloth eared poster will arrive to say they don't understand with many puzzled face emojis and away it goes again. 🙄

Thread completely derailed by ignoramuses who think they are being clever.

I remember on a now deleted thread on there, someone made a comment “They’re bitter oul women” I know that oul is an Irish pronunciation for old and some joker thought it was funny and started posting owl memes. Of course the thread got derailed by owl comments 🙄

Same with threads along the line of “What’s your favourite takeaway from the chipper?” People will post normally and halfway in some bright spark will chime in with “What’s a chipper? Puzzled face emoji”

It’s so annoying when they do that and rude to mock other dialects.

That is happening right now on a thread about a bloke stealing the last bottle of fabric conditioner in the supermarket.

That thread is ridiculous though!

But I could imagine that post inspiring a sympathetic man-bashing thread also. As others have said, the first few posts set the tone.

Actually, did anyone feel as though the unpleasantness was affecting their personality? I've become so much more cynical and hard bitten since being there. It kind of gets inside you and alters your way of thinking about things, it's really weird.

Somebody should do a thesis about this phenomenon 😄 you can see how young people get sucked into horrible sites and it can affect them.
Absolutely! I felt like it turned me into a cynic, and I started to think like they did both in real life and online. It also affected the way I posted, I started having to pick my words very carefully, and make my posts very bland and unbiased in case they turned on me.

I ended up changing my password to some random letters so I can't log in anymore. I still read it but more for laughs these days.

I read some bits, but agree with everyone that it is not good for mental health. There are some truly wonderful people on the elderly parents (cockroach cafe) thread, and some anti-Borisers who I agree with, but other than those it all makes me feel a bit dirty, tarnished...

There was a thread once where someone referred to M&S as ‘Markies’. Apparently this is a regional thing but it was fairly obvious where they were talking about anyway, that didn’t stop the vultures though. I’ve always called it ‘Marks and Sparks’ I bet that would be wrong as well 😂

Anyone keeping up with the thread over the fabric conditioner? Turns out OP’s excuse of calling the guy a “bleeping bleep” is because no man has ever taken her away on holiday.

At first I thought oh god how ridiculous, but now starting to feel really sorry for her. I agree with you all who say MN is bad for mental health. I think the majority of posters are cripplingly unhappy and are seeking validation from others, and wanting an escape from their boring or abusive marriages/home life. To outsiders their threads (especially in AIBU) seem totally unhinged when in reality they’re probably posting such nonsense is because they’ll know their threads will be trending and getting the most engagement.

Haven't read it but agree about the validation, in general.

All the 'I'm shaking and crying and whatever else for you OP.' And when yet another troll thread gets deleted, they start the TAAT. 'I was so invested and I was really worried about the OP and their wildly improbable scenario'

Perhaps you need to get a life if you are over invested 😂 in troll threads! 😂

Why the duck are they doing this?! 😂😂 Truck is perfectly valid, my husband is from The US and he says truck 🤷‍♀️ Actually so does my 6 year old because of all the damn Blippi she watched when she was younger 🙄

To be an arse. I do it sometimes too 😂

I'm enjoying the middle class identifiers 2022 thread. 🤣

"Teeth will be cleaned but not whitened"
"Open water swimming and wearing Dryrobes"
"Vagina museum mug/whippet/cargo bike"
I'm an open water swimmer but I can't afford a dry robe 😂🏊

There was a thread couple of weeks ago called ‘WTF have I done?!’

dramatic title for a post about how much OP had spent food shopping and was shocked (£60 for a single person)

had the usual responses of people who manage to spend £30 for a family of 8 weekly which includes breakfast/lunch/dinner/snacks plus wine and treats for kids… if they can manage everyone else can 🤣

Also people sharing their spends and then meal ideas most of which included lunches like ‘1 slice of toast with hummus’ which is not a lunch imo I’d be starving 5 minutes after!

helpful tips saying the OP spends too much on frozen berries… use apples instead
How are they interchangeable?!

I could go on 🤣
