Yep. Exactly this. Corruption is endemic but sadly its not just the NHS though that is probably by far the worst. All these hugely overpaid execs are never ever held to account because the 'little people' are scared off early in the process. Except Alan Bates, I'm in awe of him. And all people who have the courage to whistle-blow knowing they will be forced out of their jobs.

I had a work role that took me into a range of public services, including education. Yes, management by bullying, lying and other nefarious means became almost the norm in some services and allied agencies. Resulting in many good people being traumatised. I'd say that it was most prevalent in the NHS though. (That's not to say that there's any hierarchy of victims - if they've targeted you, you'll get treated very badly wherever you work.)

She’s had her finger in a lot of pies, big pies at that. She’s been a director of Currys, Argos, Pizza Hut, Dunelm, Morrisons, and, to cap it all, and presumably because she’s such a decent, moral and trustworthy woman, Hymns Ancient and Modern Ltd. I bet she was as untruthful and uncaring in all those posts as well.

What the hell was she doing being a priest? She has no morals.

Appalling woman, whether she loses her gong or not she is reviled by millions and millions of people and has been exposed for what she is. Forget Vennells, she should be renamed Paula Venal.

He was eventually cleared of all charges and received only a small amount of compensation. It nowhere near covers his losses.

He was involved in the group depicted in this drama and campaigned to get the Bosses investigated and Vennells stripped of her CBE. He also campaigned to have her removed from her role in the Church.

This has been a LONG battle.
It looks like this tv drama might be the thing to FINALLY address this travesty of justice.

I've recorded it and am just watching it now.

She needs punishing as well for her dishonesty taking her CBE is a good start but her and her corrupt people need to be brought up to justice.

I just signed the petition calling on Paula Vennells, the former CEO of the Post Office to be stripped of her CBE. Will you sign too?

I'm just reposting this petition here as there is now a video update included in it, which is very interesting. Just scroll down a little and you'll find it in the comments. During the short time it took me to listen to it, a further 3,000+ people signed it.

The gentleman who started the petition is called David and hearing his video he comes over as a lovely, caring man who will continue to help the sub post masters. 👏

No doubt his expertise with computers was an asset too. Thank God for people like him and the amazing Mr Bates.
 
I'm so glad this programme was made. I remember hearing about this year's ago but guess I thought it had long been dealt with. Wasn't until I watched the programme that I found out that, far from being dealt with, it has a long way to run. I really hope that now its properly in the public mind, this gets dealt with properly and put to bed. Those poor postmasters have suffered for much too long.

I've just watched the follow up programme where the actual postmasters were talking about their circumstances. Amongst them they told of their horrific experiences:

Post Office heavies barging into their homes whilst they were in bed, and demanding £40,000.

Being thrown out of their homes.

Losing their life savings.

Losing their jobs.

Going to prison.

Having a criminal record.

Being made to wear ankle tags for six months.

Remortgaging their homes, and their parents!

Being treated with depression and anxiety.

Having electrodes on their temples in an attempt to calm them.

Unable to gain employment with a criminal record and lack of trust.

Losing friends.

In 2022 each postmaster was awarded £600,000. I don't think this figure is nearly enough to compensate them for what they had to endure.

My decorator has had contracts with our local hospital and knows he can add a zero on the end of his pricing and they’ll pay, then the person above him adds more and pockets the difference and that happens all the way to the top! You’d never ever expect something like that. I’ve witnessed corruption of jobs being created for people who’s friends with the boss

If every company knows this and does this then the hospital has no choice but to pay - so I’d say the decorator and people above him are the corrupt ones! Horizon was chosen because it was the cheapest and I think they was one of the many failures in this.

The actors they chose for the drama really looked their real life counterparts! I always wonder when I watch things based on real life how much weight the casting people put on looking like the person being portrayed vs being the best actor. Like Toby Jones is a fantastic actor but if he looked nothing like Alan Bates, would they have said “Nah we’re going with the fella who isn’t quite as good but looks more like him”?
