Anyone who works in the public sector and local government knows that current levels of immigration are unsustainable because we don't have the infrastructure or housing stock available.
Putting people into hotels wasn't done in the first place because the local authority was being kind, it was because there was nowhere else to send them unless we start handing out tents.
Many local governments are in huge financial trouble now and the main strain on their budgets is adult social care and housing. Local authorities don't have enough housing stock available to move people to.
It is creating demand for housing because of x, y, z reasons for not processing asylum claims.
Who is involved in the housing part of the chain for legal immigration (which is far more vast than illegal)?
> Local authorities who have huge population booms as a result, and who demand more council tax to keep their heads above water (many of whom fail). Transfer of wealth from worker to government body via council tax.
> Property owners, housing associations and landlords who dip into government funding to convert their properties into HMO pods and get them maintained for free whilst gathering high yield rents. From government funds.
Property developers who get the go ahead to purchase green belt land and prime agricultural land to throw up boxes with names like “The Warwick” and which must include social housing stock. Land converted this way is far more profitable to the property prospectors than agriculture or enviro. And repeatedly so; some of these properties are bleeping LEASEHOLD. And of course social housing taps into that sweet government money.
Banks/Finance > Of course they lend money out. Each year, people get bigger and bigger debts where housing is concerned. If you don’t pay, they take it away. Did you know banks can now legally be landlords? Interesting that. They used to have to sell repossessions to cover the debt. Now they can own the property themselves in default.
And that’s just a tiny strand of the money-go-round of LEGAL immigration.
