I follow Tiff and Lucy's Mum on instagram, I don't actually think she's very wealthy. She sold her last house to move in with a long term partner which ended badly and ended up without anywhere to live so was staying temporarily with various friends for a while while she got back on her feet.
She now lives in a little terraced cottage somewhere near Brighton. She seems SO lovely, a really kind and gentle soul she has lots of dogs, fosters lots of rescue dogs and is very down to earth and not materialistic in the slightest.
Lucy and Tiff must get their meanness from their dad.
Re the suspected daddy issues of the Watson sisters - totally agree.
I know this is a leap but...
I have this theory that Tiff and especially Lucy's insecurity comes from feeling second best to their dad's "new" family.
Maybe he cut them out financially as they're adults and they're bitter about losing out on some of his fortune in terms of inheritance.
Seen a similar situation in real life.
I think you’re on to something there!
Clive remarried someone called Helen. He came from a well off background (grew up in Epsom, Surrey - which is a very affluent area for anyone who doesn’t know it) and started off his career as an investment banker. They aren’t exactly reknowned for being nice people.
im not sure when he split with Lucy and Tiff’s mum but it will have been before 2007, which was around the time his first son with Helen was born.
he quit investment banking and became a financial director for a pub chain, and from there created his own pub group.
form people I know working in the industry, he’s not popular. He bought up a lot of independent pubs in London to the point that there are basically none left now. Traditionally, pubs had flats above which is where pub managers are allowed to live for free whilst in the job - most pub groups still do this. Clive’s company doesn’t, instead preferring to sell it off for profit.
basically the pub industry is a nice, relatively friendly one that traditionally was about community. Investment Banker Clive and his ilk have basically swanned into that space and made a huge financial success of it, but completely removed all the soul from the industry in London.
for context, for any non-Londoners - London has a ton of beautiful, stunning victorian pubs that have sometimes been managed or owned by families for generations. They take huge pride in it. Clives business model shat all over that, basically.
so in essence, he comes across as a happy crappy but I reckon he’s probably very ruthless.
