Louis Theroux documentaries

He's back... Wish it was a UK one though

Delighted he's back on our screens.
For me, his best work was definitely the Westboro Baptist Church - I remember just being blown away by what I was watching.

I love Louis but I do think that the high point of his career was the weird weekends/ brothel/ porn era of documentaries. With Joe Exotic he entirely missed the true story there and got surpassed x100 by Tiger King. Similarly, his Scientology film was mediocre and Going Clear was brilliant.

Unfortunately, he comes across as self absorbed and narcissistic in his Gotta Get Theroux this book. He also made sure he tried to absolve himself over Saville by making the follow-up documentary.

still, he does make decent documentaries from time to time. The drinking one was really good (I really felt for them all) and so was the one about rape on college campuses.
I think the Joe Exotic thing is pretty unfair: the more bombastic elements of Joe's story hadn't happened when Louis met him, and that was as part of a single episode documentary more focused on exotic pets and different owners rather and a full series completely focused on Joe Exotic a decade later - after he was imprisoned for murder.

What I liked about this one is that he made it clear how he disagreed with them. Back in the old days, he'd have probably kept quiet and gone along with whatever they were saying or doing.

Scary though. I think I remember all this kicking off on twitter after he'd been thrown out that guy's house and the guy's fans were so supportive of him and kicking off at Louis for doing him wrong. Mad.

With the exception of Baked Alaska who seems like someone savvy who flipped to the alt-right for his career rather than his beliefs, the rest of them seem like a who's who of losers who have discovered saying horrendous things can make them 'popular' in certain circles.

Annoyed Louis didn't rebutt BA on his 'majority white county low crime' bollocks at the end, medieval Western Europe was famously crime free obviously...
