I don’t fully understand the whole “we didn’t take dna back when jo joined the force” but haven’t a couple of the series shown that they keep all the officers dna to rule out crime scenes contamination? Including Roz and I’m sure there was another one that said their dna wasn’t on file and they were told to go put it on.

To get that reaction from Ted it has to be someone significant, I can only think of Tommy Hunter?

I know it’s a popular theory but I just don’t know if I buy into Chloe being Tony’s daughter. Has enough time passed? But also really like it’s not as if he was squeaky clean, he covered for Jackie and then steered the Greek lane murder investigation towards terrorism. I know he wasn’t corrupt before all this but AC12 aren’t why it all went wrong for him, it went wrong because he slept with Jackie who was a money launderer and then got in with the OCG. I’m just not sure I buy that Chloe got into AC12 to avenge him, when they all said he died in the LoD so they got his pension etc. I also just don’t think the seeds have been sown enough, she’s never ever brought it up, the case isn’t mentioned, her Dads name has only been mentioned once and she wasn’t involved. I might be wrong, I just don’t see it...

Just throwing a thought out there... I wonder if one of the big 3 may end up killing someone... Ryan? and then attempting to cover it up, therefore turning corrupt?

They meant that they didn’t (dunno if they do now) run potential recruits DNA through the system to see if they match to anyone, so Jo’s DNA has never been run. It’s only been used in police circumstances, so her match to whoever wasn’t known because there was never reason to check it.

Jo's DNA is on file, otherwise they wouldn't have been able to identify it. It was a comment about the checks for admission to the force.

I said something about this in a previous thread. She would have to be at least 21 now and that's not taking into account the time she's been working in the police. There's no way I can believe his daughter was 12 in the first series.

I don’t think she’s Gates’ daughter either, though I appreciate it’s a very, very popular theory and I can understand why some people think she is! I’ll kick myself if I’m wrong of course . I don’t really know why I don’t buy it I suppose I’m not really sure what it would add to the plot. Aside from her first name being the same as Gates’ daughter, there’s no other reason to think she’s related is there? Jed has definitely used the same/similar names on occasion, for example Jayne Akers and Jane Cafferty and Lisa McQueen and Lisa who Ryan killed at the lake (sorry, not sure on her last name!). It’s not an uncommon name Like I said though, I’ll kick myself if I’m wrong

I’m sure it was on his file that he got back into education and was fostered! I definitely got that information from somewhere anyway and I think it must have been there

In yesterday's ep they mentioned he had yearsss of interactions with the force - I'm guessing he could've been taken into care for a short period during that time even if it was when we was like 16+ (when he stopped getting in trouble with the police)

Could it be that Jo's dad (some random to us, but a well-known criminal back in the day to the force) had had a run in with the law and that's how his dna got on the database.
And because of the age gap, it's clearly her dad but they weren't made aware of any familial links to criminality/Jo's never mentioned her family.

So this leads them to discover somehow that Jo ended up in care? Maybe her dad died and mum couldn't cope after the death?

I’m reading all the comments on the Twitter thread and it’s really interesting and actually sounds very plausible. It’ll be interesting to see what’s said on the podcast on Wednesday, think you can see this tweet and the replies to on the Shrine of Duty Twitter page For anyone interested in reading the thought process.
