I absolutely imagine that's exactly the effect he has on anyone who is around him for long. He's a crass and common piece of work, empty and irredeemably broken. To know him is eventually to be repulsed by him. That's why acquaintances tire of his fraudulent act and move on. and now he's beginning even more to spiral out of control. The enabling Clown Parents can make all the house calls they want and it will make little difference.
A grown man like that, even if he is your child, is an anchor around your neck. Eventually, you cut him loose and let him swim or drown or you drown with him. As the parents of Pallo, they're stuck and always will be wtih their spawn for as long as he lives. I think they still hold out hope that Casey will be some leveling force in his chaotic existence and addled mind and life, but she's beginning to cave to him, not the other way around. He's used to wearing down the people who try to be good to him and befriend him. Eventually, however, it's never enough and his acting out, his paranoia, and his aberrant behavior drives them away or drives them mad. His parents are a testament to that.
