Kirstie Allsopp

It really pisses me off when those born with a silver spoon in their mouth tell the plebs how to do stuff... I'm sure she did work hard on her way up, but considering the advantages she had to start with, and the sheer good luck as well - I think I read that it would take 37 years of no netflix/coffee/avo on toast to save the average deposit. duck off Kirstie.

She actually made a few valid points but as usual it's easier to run with the negative comments rather than the meaning behind them. She was not being literal when she suggested that simply stopping Netflix will get you on the property ladder but was meaning if people genuinely want to do this then sacrifices along with serious saving is needed.

I agree to an extent and I think that's why it's actually annoyed me so much. I'm not a fan of saying it's impossible to buy these days - it's defeatist and self fulfilling. BUT she is the one who reduced it to Netflix etc, while pointing out a lovely £320k house in Nottingham as an example of how it's cheaper up north. Average wage for a woman in Nottingham is about 29k. On a similar wage, with minimal commitments at the time, the bank would lend me around 110k for my mortgage last year. I'm lucky that I managed to buy a house at all, as the post covid "move up north so you can work from home with a garden" saw average prices for a 3 bed semi go from around 120k to upwards of 145k where I live.

It's just not helpful to anybody to imply that the issue could be fixed if they were just more disciplined. It's a much bigger issue, which I do believe she tried to acknowledge, but her privilege and arrogance completely undermined any valid points she was trying to make. I'd love to know her thoughts on people owning multiple homes and the way the rental market is strangling this generations opportunity while lining her generations pockets...

Also, she's been a massive bleep, getting defensive and throwing her toys out of the pram on Twitter about it.

This woman couldn't read a room to save her life. The cost of housing has been outstripping wages for a couple of decades now. Ask any economist and they will tell you that you shouldn't be spending more than a 1/3 of what you earn on shelter, but how many people have that ability? Add the pandemic with out of control inflation? Has this woman been to the grocery store lately, or does she have people who do that for her?

There was a time when you bought a house, you made it a home. This chick has been part of and made money from the whole real estate industry. At first, there were just reno/diy shows on TV. These shows became more about putting equity into your home with upgrades, then you had to upgrade to get a bigger and better house and cash in on the real estate boom, think about how much more money you are going to make off your home, sucker people into paying more for your pimped out kitchen, knocking down walls, etc. , etc. Want passive income? Become a landlord or a flipper. Can't afford to live in the city you grew up in? Tough, pick up sticks and move across country, whilst inadvertently making house prices rise in a previously affordable area. Where the hell is the gov't in all of this? MIA as per. It's just another case of elites taking the piss and laughing all the way to the bank. GFY Kirstie! 😤

She’s a bleep

Cancelling Netflix and stopping buying a coffee is a drop in the ocean.
exactly, the problem is even if you stopped buying a coffee a day for a year it would never amount to anything close to a deposit, especially in London, where most jobs are. She just has no idea, even without her family money the housing market was SO different decades ago, both of my parents were able to buy small houses in London in their early 30s, with good (but not hugely paying) jobs without any family help, at the time I think my dad even got a 100% mortgage

Sky haven't mentioned the numpty's name but they're definitely meaning her - it would take 450 years to save up for a deposit by giving up Netflix apparently.

And don't forget, by the time you have saved up enough for a deposit at today's prices, they will have risen (at a much higher rate than any interest on savings) so what you've saved still won't be enough for that deposit, AND you'll have had a miserable 450 years without Netflix and Starbucks!

I did quite like this from private eye, hopefully next time jack monroe will feature with her spoons 😆

I used to really like her (from what I saw of her on TV), but over the years she's become very unlikeable. She's actually quite rude to some of the househunters on her TV shows. So what if they're fussy - they have every right to be when looking for a place to live!

I do really like Phil though. I met him and his wife when they were in Australia a few years ago (they were at the table next to us in a cafe) - she (Fiona) is super nice - a tall, blonde lady. He was exactly as he is on TV - a very genuine sort, which surprised me as I was expecting him to be pompous.

I found Phil tolerable 'til I saw images of him fox hunting.

Loved Location x3 in its early years. Good memories of watching with my late Gran! 😊

I wish she’s stick all that crafty shite where the sun don’t shine!

Kirstie is "very, very cross" that she has been reported to social services...😀
I’m sure SS won’t do anything.😀
However, her son is still a minor. From my understanding,if he was to get ill abroad,he would be in the care of that country’s equivalent to of our SS.
I’m sure mummy would be flying first class to wipe her little brat’s backside if anything did go wrong though. 😀
