So strange the way covid has forever devastated the health of some people, yet for others, myself included, it was like a mini-flu or cold. Not pleasant but manageable. My next door neighbour was taken away in an ambulance with it but recovered well. I can remember being terrified of getting it because I have mild asthma and other health conditions, but I didn't even have any trouble breathing on the 2 occasions I had it, just felt congested. I did get chest pains but nothing was found to be wrong with my heart so it seems like that was mostly anxiety. A TV host here in Ireland said on TV that it seemed to be a lottery, how people were affected. He was OK during and after it but he had a lady on his show whose father had died from it and he wondered why that man and not him, what was the difference? He surmised that there was no discernible difference and that it was just a lottery.
it seems so random, I was super fit and healthy, covid wasn't awful for me but the recovery was nearly a year long and it affected my heart and lungs for a long time after.
Derek wasn't a small man, going by the amount of weight he lost while sick, I'm nearly sure he was massively fond of a tipple too (allegedly) which would had added a co morbidity

TBH, most of the people I know who were badly affected by covid, ( one was in an induced coma) were slim fit people who barely drank, or are teetotal.
OTOH, people I know who have long standing health conditions like asthma felt rough for a few days, and that was it!

I had it twice- once felt like a bad hangover for a few days, and the other time I had no symptoms whatsoever!!
It has to be one of the most strange and random viruses known to man!

My friends partner got it and was overweight, was put in induced coma, luckily survived but struggles walking and now has diabetes.

I feel like the worst affected people seemed be the people that got it away at the start
Well this makes sense as they didn't know enough at the time

Thank God covid now seems to have seemingly mutated into a much weaker virus for most. It's been quite some time since I've heard of anyone dying with it (please let me know if any of you know of any recent deaths from it) whereas at the beginning and I'd say for at least the first year, it did indeed seem like a lottery and there was a genuine fear there of "what will it do to me if I get it - will I be lucky or unlucky?".

As for the Garraway / Draper household, I see the latest headline seems to include "heartbroken Kate" in most media outlets. One would wonder whether he will pull through this time or not. Or whether he'd even want to.

I'm assuming that he's under the NHS again and not privately?

In which case, there must be a discussion at some point about his quality of life and future resuscitations. It was one of the first things that they discussed with my Dad when he was told his cancer was untreatable, and the palliative care team set out a Respect form saying that Dad wanted to avoid any possible hospital admissions, treatment with antibiotics and that he didn't want any resuscitation.

My job means I deal with death certificates and medical notes on a daily basis- peoole still dying of it and its been increasing in recent weeks. They do tend to be elderly people though who already in with something else and quite weak. Not seeing ITU cases (thankfully) or younger people.

'A source' noted that she's been beside his bedside "as much as possible". Initially she gave the impression (at least to me) that she would be there permanently and it was a 'vigil'.

IMO it was something else (heart attack maybe) and then covid on top. I feel covid fits her narrative and got max sympathy and press coverage. No one in his medical team could say otherwise due to confidentiality and his other family doesn’t seem to want any outside intrusion so we just hear her side.

The news from the hospital on any improvement, deterioration, or "just the same" has been fairly scant for the past few days. Usually we'd be getting a lot of updates. One would wonder what Derek's situation currently is. I did wonder if he may have passed and perhaps the media were giving the family space to grieve before announcing it, but it would seem quite unlike Kate to be so silent on these matters. I wish Derek some comfort and peace, whatever is happening.

Sorry to hear that it is still causing deaths, but heartened that it seems to be mostly accompanied by frailty or other comorbidity, and not the ITU and younger people cases we would have seen previously.

Who called it she would be papped out and about

Also a bit odd that she's papped coming out of Tesco's. If there's ever a time to utilise online shopping it is when family are ill.
Every Little (Bit Of Publicity) Helps when you're Brave Dame Kate. Remember everyone that she has selflessly missed out on Xmas this year to keep a vigil by derek's bedside so please don't begrudge her a smidgen of Xmas fun whilst she toils away for her family...

As if she can't afford to get a Tesco delivery or send someone out to get food for her?

Such a MARTYR
Laden down with shopping bags and mental torment...
