OMG this is shockingI think she's at this one...
Any ideas why it is so expensive?Interesting ...the place where Jenny is being treated filed for bankruptcy protection in 2017 ...
.Wise Buy? Proton Beam Therapy
It helps only a few, and at a wildly extravagant costwww.medpagetoday.com
Kyle didn't really elaborate other than saying they will find a way.Kyle did say that they were going to have to use some of their own money to fund the beam therapy didn’t he?
He said the place they were going was out of network for their insurance so they would have to pay the out of network coinsurance. He said the facility said it could be a much as much as $20k and they would pay it and he wasn't really concerned.Kyle did say that they were going to have to use some of their own money to fund the beam therapy didn’t he?
20k is a drop in the ocean with all the money they've amassed! He said the place they were going was out of network for their insurance so they would have to pay the out of network coinsurance. Yep this company took over after Scripps filed for bankruptcy and got out of the business.I think she's at this one...
I found this dated article ... but the reasons for the higher cost probably still hold true today. https://www.healio.com/news/hematol...m-therapy-holds-great-promise-at-a-steep-costAny ideas why it is so expensive?
Short answer: The energy requirement and heavy machinery (i.e., 220 ton cyclotron+magnets) required to produce, accelerate, and direct protons, which are subatomic particles, at up to 2/3 the speed of light (Speed of light= 3x10^8 meters/second. )Any ideas why it is so expensive?
Yes the way they spend money it does not appear they are without funds.20k is a drop in the ocean with all the money they've amassed!
I'm pretty sure Jenny's BCBS does pay for Proton therapy the facility just isn't in network. So BCBS will pay what they would pay if it was in network and Jenny will pay the balance. Thanks, Saydee, for the explanation and reference for proton therapy as can be applied to cerebro-spinal fluid.
Also, the website of Johns Hopkins University hospital states that they have experts there that can do the paperwork that results in insurance companies accepting proton therapy as treatment for particular patients, as lot of insurance companies don't want to pay this extra cost.

Protons are removed from the nucleus of atoms, such as helium or hydrogen atoms, for example, by an electric field. The protons moving at such high speeds have a very high energy. The depth of penetration of the protons in tissue is a function of the speed of the protons.

It really is shocking.OMG this is shocking
Gosh it’s a beast of a machine! No wonder it’s so expensive! Thanks, Saydee, for the explanation and reference for proton therapy as can be applied to cerebro-spinal fluid.

I think today will be session 6 for Jenny. Over the hump now! 4 to go. If it works and extends her life for another 6 to 9 months, it will be valuable extra time for them all.So kind of Kyle to take the time to update us on Jenny. It's so sad to see what this beautiful, young, family are going through and it sounds like this treatment is going to be really hard on Jenny. One can only hope it gives her that extra time and hopefully it'll be good quality time for her. My heart goes out to all of them so much.
Lady maintenance would be my first priority tbh. If lm going to be naked lm gunna look good.So she truly is not only getting whole brain radiation but her entire spinal column treated? That's a lot of real estate to irradiate. No wonder she is tired. I wonder if it also will create radiation burns like regular rads. She did say she had to be naked and she needed to do some lady maintenance. I was thinking that would be last worry at that point.
Time for some much needed comic relief ... but it comes with a dose of controversy LOL.This is a slick ad for a proton center in New Jersey which includes the testimonials of 3 prostate cancer patients (I'm pretty sure "James" is a prostate cancer patient as are the other 2 guys). But I was laughing at patient "Bill" who was amazed that the staff called him by his name and not a number, and who could still go hiking after getting zapped by the magic beam. Patient "James" testified that it SEEMED like the staff knew what they were doing and that the doctors SEEMED concerned. Heck, James liked ringing the bell so much he rang it 5 times !! And look .. the other guy was told he was cured as soon as he finished treatment !! Wowza!! That is one heck of a magic beam !!!
My comments: using proton therapy for early stage prostate cancer is a controversial issue. It costs a lot a lot a lot more than conventional radiation therapy for one thing and the outcomes don't warrant the extra cost. But look!! There's a fireplace in the lobby and James is ringing that dang bell again
OMFG Wang that's better than Dr Luvvvve.I'm sorry but my mind must be that of a middle school boy because I'm laughing about the prostate proton center's president's last name. Perfect!
I'm unsuprised by this, it is America after all! Shocking but probably realistic.OMG this is shocking
I would say she is very smart and good advice unless you really need the influx of $$.Lady maintenance would be my first priority tbh. If lm going to be naked lm gunna look good.

That's absolutely GOLD! Reminds me of a Dr Love (who deals with the male love handle) he's a urologist that specialises in non invasive prostate,, erectile dysfunction and vasectomy procedures. Reading his Patient testimonials they claim to have gone mountain bike riding only hours/a day post surgery....... said no patient ever

Someone on the previous thread mentioned a young lady Gabrielle who had a YT channel about her Lung cancer. I went to check it out, l assume most videos have been removed because the remaining say "reuploaded". This is why she stopped vlogging posted on her community tab. What a very intelligent young lady!!!View attachment 2354946 q
It's not wrong for people to ask for money for cancer treatment or paying their bills when they can't work.I’ve been reading people’s thoughts about cancer vlogs and how they can feel exploitative. And whilst I completely see where they are coming from, I don’t actually think it’s wrong for people with cancer to make money from sharing their stories.
We live in a world where celebrities are doing only fans because it pays their bills more easily than getting work via an agent.
It seems like social media is something a lot of people in many different situations do, now. when Kyle is left as a single parent, he will be financially worse off. America isn’t known for caring about citizens of theirs who are in horrible situations.
I think vlogging helps people to get their feelings out, too.
I think Jenny has received fantastic care? What do you mean by America not caring for citizens in horrible situations?I’ve been reading people’s thoughts about cancer vlogs and how they can feel exploitative. Oh for sure many use disease to exploit. How many people have chips in their tiles? Jenny was laid flat in hospital post spinal tap, discussing getting the bathroom renovated and Kyle mentioning a loan? That wasn’t idle chit chat. I like Jenny, always have but I see full well that she uses her prognosis to her own advantage. I remember in a previous video Jenny was giggling about Kyle not approving because they had seen someone giving out stuff at the hospital in exchange for a small donation. Jenny was interested in pasta because she thought she deserving because she has stage 4 disease. Kyle wasn’t impressed and kept repeating that they had no use for the it.It's not wrong for people to ask for money for cancer treatment or paying their bills when they can't work.
IMO it is wrong (and gross) to use that money you begged of your followers and cried on camera for, for trips, luxuries, cars, buying a second home, or gonks. They're exploiting a disease for money when they exclaim how much of a hardship they are dealing with and need the dollars then turn around and go on holiday for the hell of it.
And not sure how Kyle will be worse off financially, Jenny didn't work before she got cancer did she?
Yep, it was me. She deleted almost all of her videos, I was glad to find out that she's doing okay, and yes she's an intelligent and decent young lady, I'm so sorry that she's going through that sh** and on top of that people can be so rude...I remember when a woman left a comment saying her make up was horrible and made her look like a clown. Who says that to a young person with cancer who's struggling, in and out of hospitals and maybe for once trying to feel pretty/ good about herself? People suck, she's so right to stay away from SM.Someone on the previous thread mentioned a young lady Gabrielle who had a YT channel about her Lung cancer. The poor little gonks need a home, too. They couldn't just stay around the garden center or Tesco for the rest of their lives. What a hectic environment that was for them, with customers patting them on the head or squeezing them as they walked by! So, Tiffany did them a favor by adopting them, since she doesn't have pets or a child or even a goldfish to keep her company when darling is at work and Amma has escaped to her sister's house....
