I think that some of his ridiculous posturing in top hats and frock coats is due to a deep rooted inferiority complex. His father's family were from the upper echelons but his mum, who was secretary to his dad and eventually married him was from very humble stock. Her father was from Cardiganshire in Wales (where is where I was born) and was one of the many Welshmen from that area to go to London to start a dairy business. He did well and eventually sold cars I think and in true Tory spirit did well for himself and made money as well as becoming a Tory councillor. But his beginnings were poor and humble, in fact from the classes that this revolting man despises, I think it really grates on him that he is so closely related to what he would perceive as poor vermin and even worse being Welsh FFS !! Hence being OTT about being upper class and trying to erase anything about his bumkin background. I bet he despised his Mother and that is why Nanny was so popular.

Very interesting! I had no idea. I am very working class, parents worked in factories, Grandad a long serving miner. I am very very proud of my roots. It makes sense now like you say why he is such a twit proving to the world he is so upper class.

I didn't know his whole family background but I always suspected he had a giant inferiority complex. The Upper Classes dont go out dressed like 18th Century gentlemen. He reminds me of that weird etiquette bloke with the uber posh accent who was brought up on a council estate, William Hanson. I agree re the obsession with Nanny. It wouldn't surprise me if he was tryingvto hide his mother's common roots!
