Jack Monroe #600 If I don’t have a sieve, where am I getting a carabiner from?

Schrödingers pet insurance. I hope Coops pisses on the sofa and her bed.

Luckily she’s got huge savings accounts such as-
-£157k for cash purchase of flat
-2+ years of “saving what I would have spent on booze, to take SB on holiday” which he’s not yet been taken on by her
-all the income saved From work, she only pays herself a living wage and the rest goes into an account
I knew that cat was ill. She is such a bleeping liar. His conditon is awful. Also most kidney problems in cats are tablet and diet controlled.

What a bleep. I lost my tit when I discovered my mum hadn't insured her new (second-hand) dog. She was also of the opinion that it was better to just keep the money, and she'd had dogs for decades that hadn't needed significant vet treatment.
Within the first year that little fucker had a) eaten a box of chocolates, requiring a stomach pump b) got into the bird food store and eaten a load of suet pellets, requiring a night in hospital. I don't know how much that first one cost, but second time I had to go bust her out and pay the bill as mum was in hospital - £1800. I was so angry I made her get insurance as soon as she was home. Which was lucky, as the dog then dislocated her kneecap a month later, and it turns out she's got a weakness there - cure more £££ for scans.
I do know it can be hard to insure elderly cats, and they are somewhat a law unto themselves, but I hope for Jack and Content's sake that dog is properly insured and she's not lying about that.

Pets are as important to me as people, and I know how many of you feel the same.
That said: remember when she announced to the world SB was getting counselling and, unable to help herself from keeping up the ‘poor me’ appearances, tagged onto the end of it: don’t worry, he’s getting it on the NHS, she’s not made of money. editing for accuracy: ‘before anyone starts’, therefore implying it was financial.

not saying the cat is less deserving - I’m sure you know that’s not the point I’m making but when she’s got £500 to pay for a cat’s vet visit but not for her son…

I was a bit like your mum when I got my boy, didn’t know whether to insure or not because we’d never needed to with our childhood pets. But the vet business has changed so much since then, I think. Also my dog is the clumsiest (and greediest) ever, amazing he hasn’t (yet) sustained any injuries like your mum’s.

This is it. How can an owner of multiple pets be surprised at the cost? Our much loved hairy kid died earlier this year, at the same age as Adrian Mole when he kept his first diary. We insured him straight away as a pup and had many years when the only vet visit was for jabs, however, early days saw a multi-day stay for eating raisins and double cherry eye surgeries. Then there was necessary anal gland removal (praise be), periodic times he’d twist something or other on a walk and need anti-inflammatories, then the horrible weird thing that took him 🍉 with its old age companion of Cushing’s Disease (£200 pcm for meds alone), plus saying goodbye. Alongside we’ve had 3, 2, 1, 2, 1 cats with cat stuff. Petplan have had over twenty years of seeing a whole load of our money and I reckon we’ve seen it all back again. Had we not, no matter, we’ve never had to pay more than the excess for any treatment.

However, guest does have the money to pay and insurance is a choice. Just don’t act surprised at what are pretty standard vet charges or it makes you seem like an irresponsible owner who avoids taking their pet for care when they are under the weather.

When I first joined BS I saw a series of posts, all from the US, of people needing a temporary hand and requesting ‘mutual aid’ from followers in the form of a GFM or PayPal. I watched them with interest and wondered how long until guest discovered the term…

When was it that she showed the meagre balances of a few bank accounts, and assured her Glasto-sized audience that they were all the accounts she had? Before or after getting Cooper - if after, then either she was lying then about having no more accounts, or lying now about putting cashos away in lieu of taking out insurance. Or lying both times. And if she insured Content, why not insure Cooper at the same time? Lying, animal-abusing bleep.
