I remember when she first became famous and she was claiming to be working class and from the ghetto. The comedian Katie Brand pointed out that Lily had gone to the same school as Prince Charles had, which made me laugh.
Really interesting that she can quote the exact royalties she gets from books purchased* or borrowed yet mysteriously managed to get diddled by multiple nefarious people**/businesses out of her earnings isn’t it?
Can imagine Jack using this as evidence of the paltry earnings of a jobbing author as a way to beg for contributions to her PayPal. There is, indeed, advocacy to be done around boosting the income of authors (or at least more equitable pay that's not just all going to the few big hitting writers and directors of publishing companies) but she's never spoken a word about this or boosted anything around this cause to her Glasto-sized Xitter audience.
It’s 13.69p now. It’s why I’m reluctant to take her books out to check the crap she’s written. I begrudge her every 0.69p of that.
Yes, Fliss Freeborn recently wrote a very sad newsletter. After the initial euphoria of publishing her (very good, clever, funny) cookbook and having devoted herself to something she adored doing, she’s had to work outside the food industry in order to make basic ends meet.
I remember it too. I also remember her claiming at the same time that her books were the most borrowed cook books or in top 5 borrowed books. We immediately had a library Frau who said this was bollocks and her books were hardly ever borrowed.
And saves a poor unsuspecting resident from her slops and killer hacks.
I reckon Ev’s done a pity borrow.
I remember watching the interview with Jon Snow but I’d forgotten it was her. Just rewatched it. Very early days and she was mouthing off about how she was being told that the actual death toll was 150 but the govt/media were downplaying it. I remember being disgusted at the time.
