Hold on everyone, before the wheels come off the train totally and it derails and destroys the entire town!
I’ve grunked up to page 9 and we are going totally all in on ASDA/employment/THE POVERTY conspiracy theories and conflating too many things here.
Jack had three jobs in 2012 (four if you count the weekly “the newspaper” column she got given mid-year as a result of all her pompous old fartSTAR LETTERS
She LEFT the fire service in November 2011 and went on benefits (she’d moved into the luxury Mews flat for £725 the month before). According to Jack’s “usual” timeline this is when she changed her name.
The earliest now-deleted blog posts from her are from March 2012 by when her name is already Jack Monroe.

Then at the very end of March 2012 she got the pub job where she “wasn’t exactly using her degree”. She LEFT that mere weeks later, because the shifts they needed her to work meant she couldn’t claim top up benefits. She then went back on benefits for about five minutes (literally, days/a week or two at most-I’ll have to check).
In early May 2012 she even more briefly had a job in a folk music art coffee and cake shop, working 24 hours a week. That one was even more short lived as they put up with her for oh, about 24 hours and then told her never ever to darken their doors again, bewildering her as she’s so amazing she couldn’t understand why they fired her. She then went back on benefits.
In July 2012 she wrote Hunger Hurts then a couple of weeks later in August 2012 she “sold everything she owned”.
In Autumn 2012 she, again very briefly, got a job in a shop (which is where @MistyWindows hats are from). This one’s timeline is a bit more vague thanks to all the blog deletions, but again it was incredibly short-lived. I also remember @colouredlines posting about it.
By late November 2012 that job was long, long over with, she was back on benefits and she’d already launched “Bread And Jam” the tit craft business and subsequently (in/by early December) decided to come off benefits to be self employed and make that her full time job.
In late December 2012 she appeared in that ridiculous article in the NATIONAL “the newspaper” where she was “eking out a tiny income from her craft business.”

Then in February 2013 she got the trainee journalist job at the Southend Echo, by which time her self employed business Bread and Jam was long long forgotten (never mentioned again after early January).
From what Jack has said elsewhere, her ASDA job was when she was a teenager.
There’s not some giant conspiracy theory that turns out Jack was working throughout THE POV. In fact, THE POV is almost entirely self inflicted because, by her own choice she moved to a far bigger and more expensive flat than she needed, then within weeks flounced out of her Fire Seevice job (having already been signed off sick with stress) THEN she kept going on and off benefits for an entire year to do these short lived jobs she couldn’t handle (or they couldn’t handle her!) or in a frankly bleeping ridiculous decision to become self employed off the back of a few hideous dresses and amateurish cross stitch and cufflinks purely because she’s not a Jeremy Kyle watching scumbag but wants to show her son that “Mummy Works”.
She’s moaned multiple times about her benefits “kept getting mixed up”. Well that’s exactly why.
One last thing- we are so desperate for new Jack content that we are jumping in with both feet when a year ago we would have been far more cynical. That “Asda person” on Xwitter could be totally making up ever working with her but we are just deciding it’s true.
It would be easy for any of us, if we were so inclined, to claim we’d worked with her and that she was a lazy twit and a nightmare- and when asked where list one of the dozens of jobs she’d claimed. “MY NAME IS DARREN AND I WORKED ON DEBENHAMS HOTPLATE WITH JACK MONROE!” “I FLIPPED CHICKEN ON HARVESTER GRILL WITH JACK MONROE!” “I FIRED JACK MONROE FROM THE FOLK MUSIC ART AND COFFEE AND CAKE PLACE!” “JACK MONROE FAKED HAVING A DEGREE IN MY PUB!” “I AM OLD CHIEF!”

who passed away, they had been well enough known to be mentioned in the papers. Even reputable newspapers got the place where they had died wrong, I mean as in wrong country. I know because I was there when they died! It almost seems more difficult to get that wrong than get it correct. This isn't the first incident like this I know of personally either
