Why cook there then??? Why does she make things more stressful for herself?

Yes, the cyclone in jeans made it 😄

OK, so see I have missed out on an absolute joy of a segment on TM, I'll save that for viewing when the kids aren't in the room to speak over/spoil the glorious awkwardness of it all.

I am now 21% into her book. We got to 15% before any recipes made an appearance. Sloppy has been mentioned twice, sloppy is positive in this book. I fell into a google rabbit hole about bananas and serotonin. I don't know if I can photograoh this, but she says bananas contain tryptophans, and those go into creating serotonin. A scientific article I read seems to go against what JM suggests. Photos attached, I am not scientific, if anyone has any thoughts...

The first chapter was about things in mugs. One of the recipes was preceded by a few paragraphs about her being an unusual teen. Then the recipe was for, and I tit you not, a boiled egg mashed up in a cup with butter. Reader, this is ithe first "recipe" in the book I would make. If I ate eggs.

what IS the obsession with TV for her? she's clearly not good at it, she clearly has a number of things she is good at monetising so why bleeping drag yourself through it??

She has a core rabid audience of fans who will buy everything from cookbooks to photos, her books are hugely giftable to students/young people moving out so that's an evergreen revenue stream, she can make money writing articles/panel talks, she gets literally free cash from her begging bowls, affiliate links & if she cleaned up her act potential sponcon/influencer campaigns?

WHY pursue TV? She's so bad at it it'll actually damage her brand?

Same with BBC. I miss DK with Matt though.

Since DK I have tuned into Saturday Kitchen, I hadn’t really watched it before. It is a great programme and they have done well with the zoom links to guests. Matt is confident, witty, knowledge, generous and a lovely chef/presenter.

I seriously can’t see that he would sign up to more DK, after those two weeks he must have known there was no point dragging himself through more of that. It really wouldn’t help his career, being slagged every time he tried to use something basic like a lemon.

Its also interesting how he stepped off twitter when it was on and his Instagram is full of SK pictures but wasn’t much of the DK variety.

Yup it’s a good cookery show, my husband loves it - it’s what gets him up on a Saturday! He’ll make stuff from it regularly. He was not into DK at all.

He is a professional. He knows ... bit like Jamie... there’s a time to step back and let the mud slide down and away......into a drain

Every time.

Every time.

Why does she think it will go well if she doesn’t change her approach one jot?

Flapping, silence, heavy breathing, tit jokes that no one gets (or that cause more embarrassed silences), boring/weird food, getting chippy with hosts... ugh.
And always the disclaimer at the beginning 'I'm so nervous' which is 100% the wrong thing to do.
It doesn't make you loveable or get people on your side - just worried and irritated.
And the silent back to the camera for a long period of time was, well *chef's kiss*

The thing is that I think, without the rest of the crap, she has got talent/ability - some of the photographs of her kitchen, study areas, homes do show that she has an eye for colour/design and a lot of her clothes are very well chosen to suit her. The smoothie bowls were stunningly pretty, albeit a bit behind the curve.

But there's a tendency to do something that looks great (might not be my taste, but I can still appreciate an aesthetic) and then add ten times more on top. Which then takes away from the original image, clutters it up and makes everything look messy. I'd think of it as a hoarder mentality intruding upon good ideas.

Stripping back and paring down everything would work. As would properly prerecording things and editing.

I’ve seen this before, it’s an Irish thing apparently. Was it literally just mashed up eggs and butter?
