Jack, I know you've been having a hard time lately, so here's my gift to you: an idea for the sadly-delayed 101 Things To Do With Old Tins and Drain Hair.

Translation: When you brush your dog or cat*, don't throw away the fur. Birds can use it to build their nests.

* or rabbit? But that would require paying the poor thing some attention...

I do this! We brush our three daily and you could knit another cat out of what's on the brushes. Plenty of black pepper birds around getting a softy softy bed.

I have never heard of birds suffering because they can't find enough nesting material (I might have missed something, but generally I think I'm quite up to dat with any depressing environmental news). They might struggle to find a good nesting space, but needing stuff to make the nest itself I do not know about.

I can imagine people wanting to feel a connection to birds and therefore putting some nesting meterial out fro their cat or dog. So they can sort of take part in it, but I think there's better ways to help the environment (I am NOT suggesting using the cat hair as a fire lighter btw)

ETA: I meant the latter because that Spanish post has a hashtag saying 'change is in your hands'.

I can't fathom why the fridge pic has 40+ likes and counting.
Make it make SENSE!!!!!

We've had a similar thing happen at home with a minishawads social media post, similar NUMBERS & still rising.
mini definitely hasn't paid followers tho.
I'm feeling really out of touch and slightly discombobulated. I've used social media for work for years but I don't understand the engagement rules anymore.
Really glad we triangulated the aparthotel tho, it's defo the happy place isn't it? Maybe different colour cupboards in each room or camera filter alters them..

Sorry if it’s been mentioned as I read the last thread a wee bitty tipsy, but the place she stayed in Edinburgh has a place in Manchester.
Imagine staying in an instafriendly hotel in Edinburgh and coming out of your room to find food writer jack sitting on the stairs, avec dishoom take out and facing her demons through the medium of song

Re: her sudden increase in followers and engagement. Would this be because she gamed the system with last week's "like if you see this" tweet? That had huge engagement, so now the Twitter algorithm has identified Jack Monroe content as something people want to see.

Brace yourselves - I think we could be heading into a full-on Recovery Jack period. Easy way to get engagement and be seen as brave and noble. She might even manage another couple of Guardian pieces out of it.

Especially when your brain pronounces it with a ‘th’ sound in the middle and not a hard t and separate h like I am. It’s fun.
We've all got to get our kicks somehow. I wonder if I can find a YouTube clip of a French man pronouncing it /əpɑːθəʊtel/

I think it's clear that double-denim enthusiast and budget bean blogger Jack Monroe has managed to break Twitter algorithms.

The worst thing about this incarnation of Jack, is that it’s impossible to disprove given the anonymous nature of it all. She can breadcrumb this bullshit forever, and the squiggles won’t fee comfortable questioning her. Nnnnnggggg 🤯

I remember that from last year - lots of people saying pet fur is unsuitable for bird nests due to the toxic nature of flea treatments. But I think birds just crack on with nesting, don't they? No need to gift them sleeping bags, etc - they're capable of finding their own bits and bobs for nest materials.
