Thread suggestion - Is it a show, Miguel’s not sure. I am Jack, hear me ROAR.
Erm, possibly more palatable to “Waitrose” if:
(i) the food proffered was palatable/attractive/enticing; the writing, photography and presentation were good
(ii) the author was knowledgeable about fundamental food facts, ranging from basic info about “types” of food — potatoes, mince — through potential substitutions or replacements, to seasonality; or if the author was less seemingly xenophobic about cheap, nutritious and delicious foods from other cultures
(iii) the author had some basic cooking skills and was therefore knowledgable about how to cook said food, without “slinging“, “bunging” or “nuking”— I’m sure there is a place for each of these actions somewhere across the global food pantheon, but surely not all in the one dish;
(iv) the author paid attention to contrasts, textures, colours — these are important to not just the overall appearance of the dish in question, but also have some bearing on nutrition and digestive (and otherwise) health
(v) there wasn’t such a reliance on tinned food where fresh was often more easily available and cheaper — not withstanding important information put forward in an articulate and, more crucially, a non-haranguing way by previous posters in this forum on food deserts and the abhorrent situation many in this supposedly wealthy country are still facing in bloody 2020
(vi) the author would use her considerable platform to address point (v) above, rather than attempting to solve it for those living in these conditions by rinsing tins of baked beans
(vi) the author didn’t have a track record of online bullying/setting sycophants on others with differing opinions/deleting evidence of this. Or could demonstrate a willingness to take any form of constructive
criticism
(vi) the author’s continuing peripheral and self-created dramas did not detract and distract from what is put forward as her primary objective (e. the food)
(vii) the author would update her ongoing and ever changing narrative about her various experiences (food/poverty/gender politics/veganism/mental health/physical health/shared parenting). Or settle for a single version of the truth.
(viii) the author would accept that live broadcasting on any medium is not for her, and concentrate on developing her own skill set, perhaps starting with cookery techniques and food basics
(ix) the author’s reliance on “blue ticker” approval was not her sole form of validation. Arselicking the famous while being snippy to “ordinary” people is not working out well for Sali Hughes either.
(x) the author’s familiar diatribes on “poverty, exploitation and injustice” were updated to be not just focussed on her individual temporary experience from over a decade ago, but in what is happening today, in different parts of the country, to people if different backgrounds, i.e. acknowledging the valid experiences of others
Thiiiiiis. I get the vast majority of my recipes from books and blogs, for me cooking shows are just ASMR experiences really. IMO Nigel Slater has never made anything approaching an actual meal, it's all tomatoes mopped up with artisanal sourdough, but his show is still nice to watch because he has a relaxing voice and evident enthusiasm for food.
I never watch Rick Stein because he's such a know-it-all prick (distinctly remember seeing him correct a Mandarin translator's grammar and it was still edited into his show! twit. Learn to speak Mandarin and I'll allow your mansplaining) and I know I'm likely missing out on some decent tips.
With Jack it's not even like she's gonna be giving you any hints, just a ball of nervous, gobby energy and complete lack of knowledge ("just... normal potatoes"). What could anyone possibly take away from watching her other than a sixth form awareness of politics?
I think I have mentioned this a few times but Adam Frost does a ‘show’ every Friday on Insta Live. It’s at 5pm and is lovely, he is ready when the camera goes live. He is relaxed and know his stuff, you genuinely learn from him. He answers questions that have been sent in during the week.
Admittedly his family help, his daughter holds the camera and his wife drinks G&T and wanders around. This adds a genuine feel to it, if only Jack had a child and a partner to help....!
She has very few followers to be sponsored by such a big company as hellmans ?Interesting, and even though not huge numbers, she has been losing followers this past week, normally she gains so many followers you never see the red, but this time she has lost more followers than she has gained in several days... Wonder what in particular causes her to lose followers, because there are certain things that I would think would lose her 1000s of followers but she doesn't and yet this week has been relatively timid by Jack's standards and we are seeing her in the red, even though only small and doesn't make a real dent, I still find it interesting lol View attachment 139238 q
Not a ducking chance she is advising on political research. She is compensated commercially through her job so her involvement would HAVE to be declared for transparency.
I’ve submitted a freedom of information request to see if there is any truth in her claim
‘I want to help build a better world. I’m just rinsing baked beans on the way.’
Ha! I bet That means she has a YouGov account. I have one, so I consider myself consulted on a semi regular basis when I do their surveys.in response to her being 'semi regularly quietly consulted by people working on Government reports', I'm sitting with a government social researcher right now and asked him how likely this seems on a scale of 1-10, he said '-1000'
@Flumps, you’re the best
Thank you for the commentary last night. The other half asked if I was “on that Tattle again.”

I went on last night but Miguel had gone and she was rambling about people joining her on live. She does what I do when I have to speak in public. I waffle and to make up for my waffling I waffle some more and try to be funny. Luckily I’m not trying to make it as a TV (or should that be IGTV) chef.
I wish her fans wouldn’t jump on everyone who makes even the smallest bit of constructive criticism and defend her with, “But this is the first time she’s done it!” This is the woman who said she had TV presenter training and recently had a two week stint on the BBC. I’m not saying she should be a pro by now but at least have the absolute basics by showing up on time, being prepared and letting the other person speak.
“That showed them!” indeed. Funny how many of her (almost certainly fake) stories have this theme. It brings to mind Alan Partridge and his “needless to say, I had the last laugh”.I don't believe it. Call me cynical.
Fixed it for you sweetheart. xxI do look forward to reading the real reviews for this book...
You will not believe what my old boy called her. Even my ears turned red.But of course, none of the comments on her post have pointed out that Padawan means what it means, and instead as usual are blowing smoke up her bleeping arse
Why on earth would someone carrying out a government report consult Jack? She's no point of reference anymore.in response to her being 'semi regularly quietly consulted by people working on Government reports', I'm sitting with a government social researcher right now and asked him how likely this seems on a scale of 1-10, he said '-1000'
