Thanks to Mr D's origin story/location, what I find most offensive about it is that fishing is bleeping dangerous. The fishermen who went out to catch those freezer space fillers literally RISKED DEATH to do so. Every time we're back visiting his family, we spend a short time at the memorial looking at the names of the boats and crews that have been lost. And there's always a new one. Every single time, there's a new plaque for more souls lost at sea.

She really wasn't keen on getting him a label, but the funding wasn't available through the school until he had a formal diagnosis and they strongly encouraged her to try and get a statement for him.
I would prefer that schools could get funding for additional support for children regardless of medical statements, but, as we all learned a few years ago, 'there is no magic money tree'. (Though I think there actually is ...)

There used to be money like this. I left the Labour Party in disgust for other reasons, but there was a brief period in the early 2000s when there was funding for children with mild barriers to learning to have interventions.

I hadn't got a clue but apparently it is taxable and supposed to be declared by the recipient on their self assessment forms.
It is staggering that Jack is receiving nearly £15k pa for nothing. Nothing.
As others have said this is on top of her book money, Del Monte, Linda M, TV appearances, the Hellmann's ('5 figure sum' remember?), other sundry earners eg Vogue, Guardian articles. So at the very bare minimum last year she 'earned' that we know of is at the very least £25k (Hellmann's plus Patreon) 😡

Its a multi disciplinary diagnosis on NHS.. Diff professionals see the child, speak with parents and discuss findings at a panel of different professionals. We saw a child psych and a specialist OT. Panel is much larger group.
My D was assessed and observed and a developmental history taken.

It was only through her diagnosis of an eating disorder that it really came to light. Therapist and psychiatrist recommended it. Being autistic really impacts the treatment of her ED.

£15 grand from well meaning folk , beggars belief!
 
Her tax return must be a nightmare. I pay a (non Sunday school teaching) accountant to fill in ours as it’s about 9 pieces of paper and I cba (I don’t even earn enough in the uk to pay tax). It makes me stressed out even thinking about all the different income streams and outgoings she should be keeping track of.

That sounds like a very thourough and careful diagnosis (which I didn't deny they exist, I was more referring to other situations when this is not the case..) I hope your D's wellbeing and situation will improve and that some things will work for her.

Maybe Jack the pratt bought hers privately and got a cheapo.
Some organisations are accepted by the NHS. National Autistic society costs about 3k and is similarly thorough.
Cheapest privately we found (looked into it as waitingnlists are long) was 900 quid but no multi disciplinary assessment.
Different assessments recomended for girls and boys (ados and disco.)
There is some discussion about separating autism, learning difficulties and mental health issues. Often co morbid however. D doesnt have learning difficulties per se (Does really well academically).

I LOVE soup and it tends to be one of my go-to lunches but that...THAT just looks horrendous. It looks more like cow dung than cow dung does.
 
In my experience, there are more diagnoses now, but only because people recognise the signs and parents are in the main more open to getting the diagnosis than they used to be. There were the same amount of SEND kids 15/25/40 years ago, but it just wasn’t recognised, or the parents didn’t want a label because of fears of stigma. There still is some stigma, but far less. As someone else said, most of us here are likely old enough to remember kids in our class who were labelled naughty or thick and written off, who now would be recognised and helped appropriately.

I would agree money definitely helps with diagnosis but only as going private is far quicker - I don’t think the end result is any different in 99.9% of cases than it would have been on the NHS. I think the time it can take on the NHS (who do have a robust process but in many areas it can take months to years even for textbook cases, even more so in adults) is also a big contributory factor to the rise in self-diagnosis.

If she hadn’t told so many different stories (at different ages) about her diagnosis, I’d wonder if Jack was right about being diagnosed at 12 but had had more appointments and assessments than she’d realised. She is of an age where I could see her parents wanting to keep it quiet.

ETA This comes up quite a lot. To clarify, Jack has a variety of income streams. This is normal for someone in her line of work. She will have to declare all her income for tax purposes (i.e. Patreon, royalties, fees for appearances, etc.). We have no reason to believe that she doesn't do this.

However, nor do we have any proof as she hasn’t filed accounts on time!!!!!
 
It's the 'she likes hers chunky' part of the caption that is making me HOOT. Not only is that an awful phrase which makes the food sound completely unappetising, but it also makes me think 'God forbid that Louisa actually wanted to eat food with some texture.' Imagine her cycling all the way back from London, cream crackered after a busy day at work and a thorough workout on the bike, to be met with replenishment which takes the form of that. I'd be dialling up the local kebab house in the early hours!
