I love fanfics, always a bit embarrassing when I allude to that, but hey, some of that stuff is much better than published authors. Some are also much worse, but who cares. I only ever got into HP fanfiction and never had any appetite to read anything else. I am now curious about Strike fanfiction and might have a go at Archive Of Our Own or Fanfiction.net later today to see what's out there. Given that the characters are adults and set in the real world, I've hope for it not all to be weird woo stuff with a pinch of badly written sex scenes by thirteen-year-old authors.

There is def a lot of crap, where the characters feel 'off' somehow and the way they speak just seems wrong. There's a few though that are really enjoyable, especially the ones that have a case alongside the Strike/Robin will they just get it on already plot. Like I said The Star Eyed Guard would be my suggestion if you're up for a long, slow burn but satisfying read.

Mr Mercury has said before he's sure that some authors must use fan fic to try out ideas or maybe even just write what they really wish their characters could do.

I really hope this latest book won't get caught up in the whole TERF thing like last time. I know Rowling is very linked to the trans debate now and I personally find the whole topic complicated for various reasons but regardless I love this series of books for the stories. I think it's possible to project anything we want to on to books etc. The last one didn't say that trans women are murders tho.

Something for us all to remember

Guess they will do a lot of shots of things being typed but you can see who is typing it?!

That’s what I fear - I hate it when programmes use text/email to convey a plot point as they’re rarely on screen long enough to read properly, plus my DH is dyslexic and finds reading on screen tricky so we always have to rewind and pause those scenes.

I think they’ll cut most of the online stuff and just allude to it indirectly. They had to sacrifice lots of detail from TB, and IBH is even longer, so unless it’s a 96-part series I guess lots of it is for the chopping block!

Yeah, I think they’ll cut out most, if not all, of the chat room exchanges. The BBC never seem to commission enough episodes to do the books justice (I mean why make it a four parter when you can do two? 🙄) so there’s ample opportunity to cut a ton of the story out.
I'm looking forward to seeing this. They won't be able to cut out all the online stuff as that's how they suss out who's the murderer (as I recall).

They’ve culled entire plot strands & characters out of the longer books in order to fit them into a few hours of tv, and given that people found the online transcripts and multiple channels with multiple participants confusing in the book they’re going to have to pare it back to the bare minimum for tv. Let’s be honest, it would be very hard to translate numerous simultaneous online chats into riveting television viewing anyway - it wasn’t exactly ‘edge of the seat’ stuff in the book!

It depends, I just hope they use some good graphics. I'm quite looking forward to seeing the 'game' and the characters. Although it might be a bit expensive for the BBC to actually make something that looks like an online game.

Look at the absolute wanker running this place who has accused JK of using 'racial stereotypes', 'fat-shaming' and a 'lack of LGBTQIA+ representation' in the books.
How are morons like this in positions of power?
The person who's hateful is this bleep.
