Regarding work, I am sure most of us had little jobs as soon as we could, so we had a little independence and the ability to buy things our parents might not necessarily buy.
In the US, volunteering is encouraged from 1st grade, more so in Middle school. Once you get to high school, if you want to get into a good college, showing a willingness to volunteer is a definite plus. Being part of a group, drama, cheer leading, band or a sport would be an additional advantage. My experience of American kids is that their lives are fully occupied by various activities, including working, from dawn to the time they go to bed. It's expected of them.
From my own experience, our 2 eldest couldn't work due to visa restrictions and they hated having to ask all the time for money to buy things. Our youngest was able to work from 16 and she has been the most resilient with finances as she learnt from a very young age the value of money. The older 2 not so much, but they are getting there.
Ella has not had the experience of the value of earning a reward from what we know of how Alice parents. Earning her own money to buy items that she really wants and not the hand me downs from Alice would a great experience for her and maybe open her eyes to the narc her Mother is.

I had a proper part time job from 15. Learned lots. I saved part of that money and moved abroad. Maybe that's what Al is afraid of, their independence.

Oh I’m sorry. I misunderstood. Yeah kids should be left out of all of this. I know they’d be aware of what’s happening. But you don’t trash talk the other parent. You don’t involve them in the conflict. The best thing you can do for your kids is to get along and smile and PROTECT them! They don’t need the details. How you feel about your ex is irrelevant. Talk to your friends. Talk to your therapist. Talk to your priest. Whatever. But your kids aren’t your friends and they shouldn’t be part of the conflict. And most definitely they don’t need OR WANT to hear about your sex life.

My older daughter began babysitting from age 13. She earned a ton of money and got great references from parents who treated her like family. She even traveled with them. By 10th grade as part of an AP class she volunteered weekly in our local hospital’s NICU. She absolutely loved it and felt very accomplished.

Great as an idea of a part time job for E to learn about life and normal people’s interactions, responsibility and gain some independence, not to mention getting away from that mad house, I dont think mAlice would allow it. Only something on her terms, like modelling, acting - anything that would allow her to continue to control and interfere.
My friends almost ex narc husband did everything he could to discourage their 16 yo from getting part time job. From: "you need to concentrate on studies" (girl does nothing but as hardly has social life - never was allowed to bring friends home, have even kids parties etc cause its all mess and noise, you know) to "is that all you aspiring for - to be a waitress??" To "this place is dodgy, why would they hire you without any experience, you dont know what you doing, what do they want from you" and finally to "this cafe is really not our level, are you sure you even want to be seen there, Id be a bit embarrassed if I were you". Luckily she insisted and still got him to agree to sign permission (she needed some sort of letter from both parents to say they dont mind her working there) but he’s been "drinking her blood" as I call it for a couple of months. I can quite see mAlice doing the same. Her babyeez, tiny little babyeezz that need a nanny, to work?! Babyeezz that are used to being famous from birth?! Like commoners, babysitting or, god forbid, working in a shop for couple of hours a week?! The outrage!!

I think you really hit the nail on the head here. Helena really embodies her style where as Alice more often looks like she's raided the kids dress up box. A lot like her bags actually.

This is so much nonsense: everyone would "know" because most of those "expensive" holidays are work trips. And honestly, Alice and Ella have no reason to be jealous given their treatment od him. Ella cant spend a minute with him without causing havoc, how would she be able to visit him exactly? it's gaslighting pure
while Ioan ambiguously described some of Ella's behavior in later filings she made her two biggest shortcomings (the hacking and the DARVO assault) public herself. gaslighting again. the idea these people have that the publication of abuse is worse than the abuse is beyond insane.

A job could be good for her, get her out and about and away from her mother's malign influence, teach her about money, responsibility, give her self-respect earning her own money, etc. But I worry she's too vulnerable, and as you pointed out, too over-whelmed with everything already on her plate, to get a job as well. I don't think she's had any chance to just be a kid for years. Alice was parentifying her even before Ioan left.

Even if the eldest doesn't need to work (and tbh I really don't get the insistence from some people here that she should?) there's a lot to be gained from volunteering and social activities.
