Most serial killers are opportunist...they don't groom. They take opportunities that occur. They see an opportunity and take it. No grooming involved...most meet in streets, clubs and pubs that sort of thing.
It's not giving in to temptation when you are a sociopath you believe it's your right
If you knew anything about crime then you would understand it's not about temptation, as with temptation there would be remorse and there is none

You know the kind of person that just gets a pet put down rather than re-home it as "well I was moving house and it never would have coped with that, so best to put it down"
