I have an almost 1 year old puppy and it is not for the weak with both me and my partner I could not do it alone. I hope she has been planning this and knows what it takes and it isn't just something for content as she keeps trying things and not sticking out with them.
Completely agree. My dog has just turned 3 and is great but the first 18 months were tough and a rollercoaster of emotions. Me and my husband both said we couldn’t have done it without the other. As much as I love having a dog, if I was in her shoes- young, single and living in LA I would definitely not want to tie myself down with a dog. People on social media love to romanticise having a puppy, they never show the reality.

A puppy is a massive commitment. I have a two year old cat and the kitten phase was crazy, cant even imagine a puppy.
It’s a bit odd she has tied herself down like this. She’s only in her mid twenties, odd decision but in the US having a cute dog is like an accessory

I can’t believe she’s already leaving a 9 week puppy at home alone 😳😔

Holly, seeing as you have directly confirmed you read this thread whilst on a podcast, please do better. You can make as many extravagant purchases as you like on a whim but a puppy isn’t a toy. It doesn’t fit her lifestyle at all.

I guess she’s staying in the US then?! Or until she gets bored of the dog 😂View attachment 3150465 q
This annoys me SO much. Influencers do it so often for the content and don’t think about the requirements of owning a dog. ESPESH a puppy!!

She has been in the USA, 6 months? Shes probably on a work visa so not permanent. She also has no family in the USA that we’re aware of.

Getting a dog should be a decision after a couple years of living over there and your truly settled, done all the exploring you want to do, made sure you are happy to be there for a long time etc.

I see her as someone that will be there for 1 year max and then move back to the UK and then what, try to move the dog over here? It’s so hard and can be dangerous for the dog that it isn’t a light decision.

It just annoys me that people think getting a dog is such an impulse decision.

Might be in the minority here but I don’t think leaving the puppy alone for short bursts of time, to go to the supermarket for example, is unreasonable. Building the puppy up to be calm by itself will avoid separation anxiety in the future, which is so hard to fix once started. The gym she went to work out in is also in her building so she wasn’t alone for long.

But, totally agree her lifestyle and a puppy do not mix. She is in for a shock when she realises she has to be the person who turns down drinks after dinner because her dog is at home alone and she needs to get back. The dog will also need tons of exercise considering she lives in an apartment and it’s a poodle cross, which will eat into her content and gym/running time. I think Holly is actually very unhappy in LA and has bought this puppy for companionship without fully thinking it through.

Also, hate that it is clearly from a breeder. Guess a shelter dog doesn’t fit her content aesthetic 🙄

I agree re building up to leaving a puppy alone in the long run is essential however, this is a 9 week old, non toilet trained puppy that she’s had for a mere SIX days. It’s not even fully vaccinated yet and she’s admitted it’s teething. Irresponsible disaster waiting to happen… IMO

You dont prevent separation anxiety by leaving a pup when you first bring them home.

I have followed a trainers advice with all my dogs and theyve not been left alone for at least 3 weeks when I brought them home. None have had any separation anxiety and are very secure and easy to leave now.

Leaving a very young pup alone from the get go before theyve even adjusted to being away from mum and siblings is a recipe and breeding ground for SA to appear. It seems counter intuitive but its actually better to lay the ground work into creating a secure dog with healthy attachment and that is allowing them to be around you as much as they need in the beginning.

I’m mostly here to wonder how her boobs always look so full and perky in her sports bras?! Not squashed down into submission like mine 🤣
