What is the story with the letter? I thought Meghan sent her dad the letter, he didn't make it public as she had anticipated/hoped so her 'friends' started leaking details or talking about this letter... So he then released the letter to disprove some of the stuff she/her friends were saying?
 
Chateau Marmont is supposed to be the inspiration behind the Eagles song, Hotel California, and some of the lyrics are fairly apt!

Her mind is Tiffany-twisted

She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys
That she calls friends

And "You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave" is pretty much Harry's position as a royal.

Yes I believe this forms part of the defence in that it was Meghan herself who authorised parts of the letter to be revealed in the first instance (via her friends talking to a US magazine). Thomas replied via the MOS to set the record straight after he was slated by her friends.

The parts of the letter that I’ve read makes me think she wrote it knowing it was going to be publicised. It just didn’t flow like a normal letter, too much detail which was only needed for context if an outsider read it.

Meghantoinette’s new mantra should be “Oh, what a tangled web we weave. When first we practice to deceive!”

I agree. And didn’t Thomas Markle initially keep quiet about the letter. It’s existence was only revealed once Meghan got her clueless mates to talk about it.
