Fresh Pumpkin isn’t in season(and is actually one of the few truly seasonal vegetables left) when bake off is filmed and the tinned stuff isn’t that readily available in the UK(when you compare to tins of peas or carrots etc) it’s also really expensive as it’s imported.

Plus the UK doesn’t really use pumpkins in sweet dishes like pumpkin pies/cakes in the way they do in America. I’ve only ever grown up with them being used as a savoury food in soup/stews etc Pumpkin spice lattes only came to uk Starbucks in the last 8/9 years

Fair enough they're not in season at the time of filming - I blame my suspension of disbelief for forgetting it's not actually happening in real time 😅
Personally I've always opted to use leftover pumpkin in pies and cakes at this time of year because I have a sweet tooth. And butternut squash is a good substitute all year round. I dunno, maybe next year they can do a Christmas week using summer berries 🙃
 
I liked the baking in the most recent episode, the challenges were fun. But Matt's comments and poor attempt at humour made my toes curl, the worst of the episodes so far this season.
 
I think I've had enough bake off now 😌
There are definitely things the show could do to improve like goi g back to basics but I dont even know if its entirely the shows fault - I just think ive had my fill of watching people baking!
It's just background noise for me now and I usually fall asleep during it 😅
Maybe it should take a break for a year or too 🤷🏻‍♀️
 
This series feels so much more rushed than the other ones, like they’re trying to cram so much in every episode that you barely see them bake anything at all. I also think it’s a pretty boring bunch this year and Noel and Matts humour is dead, Prue has never been funny and Paul tries too hard. Clear the lot of them and start again.

I had an epiphany while listening to Richard Ayoade on Off Menu this week.. he would be the PERFECT GBBO host!! Loves dessert, endearingly awkward in a funny way and anyone who has seen him and Noel on Big Fat Quiz knows they are a brilliant double act.
