Good show again last night.
Excellent challenges.
Just think, last year the technical challenge would have been some obscure biscuit no one had ever heard of, half an hour to do it, and the instructions would be 'make biscuits'.
Thank goodness they've listened to public demand and gone back to basics. Next week looks good too - bread week.

Me and Mr Giraffe were saying last night that there are normally certain stereotypes in the tent eg the eccentric one, the camp one, the young less experienced one and they're all there to a fair extent but the one that is thankfully missing is the irritating as hell one that seems to stay in for far too long based on what they actually produce (style over substance types that think they're better than they are). They all seem really nice in their own way so am enjoying watching it plus the challenges are better as people have already said.

I thought Allison is exactly right as a host but I wish they would replace Noel. I found Nicky's blouse distracting. Why choose something with floppy cuffs for baking. Roll your sleeves up girl. I kept getting adverts for Sainsbury's fishcakes in the middle and now I want one. They are not in our local Sainsbury's but I did get a packet of custard creams today.

Started to enjoy Bake Off again. I stopped watching last year. I really think Allison was an excellent choice. However I wish Paul was taken down a peg or two - hilarious that Noel referred to him as the God of baking when Prue who has years more experience and substance was right next to him.

Can always count on my fellow Twitter gays. 😆

I’d be mortified if I found random strangers speaking about me like this! 🤮

Hollywood will cling to this show till it's end. I'd wager that had he not had the mega cheating scandal circa the mid 2010s, which effectively tanked his US career, he'd have gone around the same time as Mary, Sue and Mel.

I know I’m in the minority here, but I have found it a bit boring so far.
As much as I think them being given a technical for something they have never heard of with no method is ridiculous, I feel like it lacks the input of other cultures. Apart from Saku and a few having lived outside of the UK, it’s a bit too British! I’m not explaining myself very well, but I think it’s more interesting with more variety than chocolate cake and custard creams.

Tbf it's only week two.
I think they were trying to pull it back to basics from the off and recalibrate it. I suppose we don't know what they have up their sleeves for later!

I love that it's gone back to basics. And you can see some of them aren't going to cut the mustard - I'm just a relatively seasoned home baker, but all that liquidy ganache? Who can go on this show and not make ganache, it's so easy! Anyway I much prefer this kind of thing, testing whether they can actually do the basics of baking along with letting them showcase the fancier skills with the showstopper. Some of the skills stuff in the past have been ridiculous.

The problem is that it's been an evolution so you can't look at any one season in isolation. It started off with basic British bakes but as the seasons go on you can't do the same thing every time, so within a few seasons you've exhausted British classics and need to expand your reach. They've revamped now, but where does it go? Another few seasons and you're back to where we were with obscure tasks like cooking pitta breads on a fire outside.

Honestly I dont see why not. Its like saying they can't do the same dances every year on Strictly. It's the variety of contestants and their approaches/varying degrees of success that keep it interesting.
I do think it helps to include things from other countries and cultures though. I hope they haven't thrown the baby out with the bathwater by getting rid of themed weeks in some misguided attempt at wokeness only to make it an exclusively British affair. Presumably they'll have some non-British bakes but without the dressing up and forced theme.
