there was some really strange choices. the haunting of hill house was also an odd one. you’d think (like mentioned above) they would have gone for big viral moments - so the lizard on planet earth made sense but also then maybe some big reality tv moments or epic soap ones. it could have been so much better!

They did not show the snakes chasing the lizard again did they??!!!! I think I’ve already commented on this thread about how over used that clip is 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫
 
I thought the 10th anniversary special was going to be a documentary-style event, where they get past Goggleboxers on to talk about their time on the show and members of production talking about how this show became such a success with a lot of classic clips thrown in such as “Yeah but not a terrorist though Chris!”, Steph and Dom getting drunk out their skulls every episode etc. It was a bit underwhelming as it felt like the special prioritised showcasing footage from the biggest news headlines over the past decade, as opposed to being about the Goggleboxers themselves. I wonder if any of the old cast members would return, like Steph and Dom? I’m sure the Wordenwebbers from The Wirral pop up every few seasons.

Also, can anyone remember during one of the really early seasons of Gogglebox where they showcased the cast reacting to the show winning an NTA? I’m pretty sure it was the show’s first (and only) meta moment. I can remember that Jay, who famously never spoke, sitting on the sofa on his own, whilst his family popped up on the telly collecting the award 😅.

I still think the clip showed that he pretty much had her measure from the start.

Catching up with the anniversary episode. Loved seeing how young some of them looked. I only started watching in lock down so didn't recognise lots of them.

Oh I definitely think so too.

I'm trying to think what other clip they featured on an old episode that I was watching during the week and Stephen, again, was curling his lip at whatever was said. 😁

That list of tonight's viewing sounds underwhelming. If I have to hear about the Gary Lineker non-event one more time...

Agree about the escapism. I remember the Siddiquis providing hilarious commentary when Donald Trump met Kim Jong-un, though. So maybe it depends whether the news story's entertaining or not.

there have been good news moments i admit! the boris pepper pig world speech and the prince andrew interview come to mind but i think it should be done sparingly. i just don’t watch the show for commentary on current affairs - they’re at their most entertaining when they watch reality tv imo.
