The rules have always been there. France were going to enforce them a few years back. However in the end their didn’t. Fifa is unlikely to enforce for individual disputes but over this I think they might try because it could have a major effect on the World Cup and they would like to remain top dog.

Fifa will not want to be seen as not being able to enforce their own rules. When have Fifa ever been reasonable ?

It’s not a load of tit, don’t you remember Joel Matip? He was called up by Cameroon for the African cup of nations but refused to go as he claimed he had retired. He ended up being suspended from football until it was sorted and ended up missing a match for Liverpool.

I doubt they will do this currently due to the restrictions on travel as technically you shouldn’t be travelling to a red county for any reason but refusing a call up can very much have you suspended from representing your club.

wont happen stop believing everything you read in newspapers. they are the masters of clickbait/bs as it makes them money.

punishing players for not going on international duty 😂 I can imagine the backlash

yikes thats awful players should have the right to say no even if its just coz they dont want to play.

With Matip part of the issue was he didn’t formally retire using the prodedure set out by Fifa so was automatically suspended upon request of the Cameroon Football authorities.

Egypt themselves know that asking for FIFA’s help Fifa might well respond by threatening to suspend Salah. And Egypt are small fry compared to Brazil and Argentina pushing for players to be suspended - that is the where the major issue will be.

I doubt that will scare Fifa and even the FA ( the FA have spent too much money on the 2030 bid to fall out with Fifa over this).

The Telegraph also say that Fifa are contemplating sanctions.

Yes I remember it very well. Was a completely different situation though. Covid and travel restrictions was not a thing at that point, therefore the rules etc are going to be completely different now. In my opinion it’s pretty much a load of tit saying players will be punished for not traveling for international break based on Covid rules, just my opinion 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not in terms of FIFA’s rules who ended in April the ability introduced last year for clubs to block players if they had to quarantine. For Fifa to do that means they must have realised clubs would still do it and have planned to at least threaten enforcement measures. I doubt the Brazilian football association will just calmly accept Fifa doing nothing

I completely agree with you, I personally think it would be morally wrong to force someone to travel to a red list currently during a pandemic but unfortunately it’s FIFA and they are morally bankrupt. I was just referring to a player who has fallen victim to these rules before but as you say this wasn’t during a worldwide pandemic.

Yeah I see where you were coming from, it’s more the other constant posts about government etc getting involved that I just cba with. If Covid wasn’t a thing and a player refused to go on international break then that would be a totally different situation, but making a player do something they don’t feel comfortable doing (especially if they are not fully vaccinated or vaccinated at all) isn’t on. Either way I’m sure we will see what happens soon as international break is very soon

European Governments wouldn’t care (through if a major England star refused to play I could easily see Boris commenting on it) but some governments don’t accept their countries should even be on red lists and like getting involved in these issues.

I kind of agree, I’ve not been a fan or anything but I did watch her documentary. I felt like she came across okay in it. But he didn’t in my opinion seem like he could care much less if he tried. He might have been embarrassed as I’m sure we all would if we were outed publicly for our unacceptable behaviour. But I didn’t get a warmth from him on that show.
