I don’t think they’re uncommon and some clubs probably don’t disagree with it too often. From years of Football Manager experience I’ve put them contracts in order to keep star players. Mostly it’s in hope that the price is so large that it would be rare for it to be met/activated. That was probably true in years past but there’s tons of money in football now so anything is possible.
Plus even Villa couldn’t have expected the Hype with Grealish that grew from when he signed his new contract last year until City made their offer.

disagree thats exactly why that new contract was done, all last Summer he was linked to Utd/City. So best way for them to guarantee a higher price
I doubt they thought he be off after a year and that City would gamble on him When they could get a cheaper player 3”elsewhere

like I said, I disagree as was obvious how wanted he was last Summer. And its City they dont look at price tags 😂
I think one reason they want more English Players is they know atm English Footballers are popular. But it all can all change pretty quickly and if it does this Government will go for footballers who they don’t like being more influential then them.

FFS. I’m such a twit. I thought she had just pulled her trousers underneath her hips and those were her knickers. Didn’t realise they were cut outs. 🤪
Maybe I’m just old.
Good thing I wasn’t trying to copy her style. 😬
Ah don't worry, it does look like lower rise trousers but that would borderline porno low rise! I definitely would not copy her my hips are far too big and I am not a skinny mini but hey good for her! 😆

Because all football clubs buy their players basis how much hype it creates. And not actual footballing ability.
The hype and that fact he is English and was Local added to the value Villa had for him. Bacially every English Players costs 15-25% more than someone from abroad because of the extra benefits they bringl

Would they be as much hype if he wasn’t. Lukaku returned to Chelsea for a similar amount and got no where near as much hype or comment in the press.
thats bound to get more press though, white boy leaving boyhood club for way more than most think he's worth.
compared to Rom coming back to the PL a guy who's 1 of the best strikers atm & arguably worth his price tag

I’m well aware of the so called “English tax” on player prices. My point alluded to your original post that suggested City bought JG because he’s currently popular and your follow up post ref the hype around him.

As I said with a bit of sarcasm, teams are well known to base their spending on hype and not footballing ability…..

Hmmm trying to force a move is he? Not sure that’s the right way to go about it
Everton have been seeking offers for him for weeks so I am not sure he has to do much to get them to agree to a move.

Clubs must find the benefits of playing ‘the English Tax’ useful otherwise they would not have anymore than the bare minimum to meet the league and UEFA’s homegrown rules.

unsure what your response has to do with the point here 🤷🏻‍♀️

where was anyone suggesting that teams shouldn’t pay the English tax?

I mean if a club could buy English player A for £75 million or Player B from abroad for £65 million and both are of pretty similar quality they often go for A as the benefits of paying the tax (both short term and long term) outweigh the negatives of spending £10 million more
