Florence Pugh

So, was she just pissed off the papers and gossip pages got word out before she could? Used to like her now find her pretentious as duck, the epitome of typical starlet. Needs to stop biting the hand that feeds her, plenty of mini Florence’ in the wings.
 
I'm so interested in this right now. The press seems intent on Olivia being a villain. I'm not convinced. Same with putting her against Flo. Not saying best of friends but not hating on eachother...the SLB thing not sure what to make after the emails and texts...Def seems like wasn't fired.
 
I don’t think Olivia and Florence got along, maybe because of Shia or maybe because of her relationship with Harry, many gossip sites were reporting that Olivia was spending too much time focussed on Harry than the movie, often found in his trailer with him. The fact that Florence has so far done next to nothing to promote the movie and will only appear once during the premiere speaks volumes.

Olivia has been caught telling porky pies and positioning herself as a protector of Florence when the video that was leaked shows her arse licking Shia. It’s all so messy and for a movie that’s has had less than stellar buzz about it so far.
 
I’d be interested to know if Olivia said Shia was fired because she wanted to say it or because the studio wanted her to say it. Lying is one thing, but lying to give the impression she was protecting Florence when she begged Shia to stay is something else. Also, she probably didn’t know about the FKA Twigs stuff at the the time, so it makes it seem like she’s used the fall out for her own gain which is icky. Coupled with the leaked scenes of Harry’s awful acting, this whole film has descended into disaster.

Harry’s scenes are awful. He is a good enough pop star whatever that means, judging by his contemporaries the bar isn’t exactly high (if you take out the mega stars like swift and bey) but he is bleeping everywhere and over exposed. I suspect a fall from grace imminently.

Olivia had a lot of goodwill and acclaim for booksmart and she seems to have wasted it for some Harry dick. I think Florence will be fine. And will probably emerge out of this unscathed. So far she is the only one who has remained silent and let the other idiots make utter tits of themselves.

I hope Florence does stay quiet. I think she’s great but I can’t deny that she seems a little prone to holy moments. Wanting to defend yourself/your relationships/your choices is understandable but this is a bear not worth poking.
 
I’m very curious to see the film but I’ll wait for streaming. That one clip of Harry is god awful Hollyoaks tier acting, and imo his accent totally jars with the vibe and tone of the film. If they had to cast a Brit it needed to be someone who can do a solid American accent (like Florence.)

I also find Florence a bit attention seeking, the way she’d pout and whine about the online reception of her relationship with Zach Braff was irritating. Like you were in your early 20s dating a man old enough to be your father, some people will be skeeved out by that. You’re both public figures it comes with the territory.

But back to the film, I’m glad Olivia got totally nailed by Shia and his receipts. She’s trying to be this rah rah feminist filmmaker in public and throwing him under the bus making it seem like she fired him. Meanwhile in reality she was sucking up to him and basically begging on hand and knee for him to remain in her film. Not to mention being bitchy and condescending about her female lead behind her back in the process. A total mess.

Florence is a talented actress but this film sounds bad, Harry’s awful performance and Olivia’s behind the scenes nonsense will be the only takeaway from it all. Then it will fade into totally obscurity. It’ll be a footnote in her career and nothing more. I’m interested to see what future roles she has lined up.

She had a really blessed ‘welcome to Hollywood’ coronation year in 2019 with Midsommar and Little Women. Both excellent performances and memorable films. Her career got a bit waylaid with covid delays imo. I wonder if she’ll ever regain that kind of momentum again or if she’ll be a flash in the pan.

I find her quite refreshing in the sense that she’s a strong actress and not a barbie doll type getting by on looks alone. Or a nepo baby. That alone sets her apart from 90% of her peers in young Hollywood.

Oppenheimer and Dune part 2 will both be massive. Puss in Boots will probably do well, too. She’s quite busy over the next two years and that’ll take her up to MCU phase 5 when she’ll presumably be in the Thunderbolts. I don’t think Miss Flo will be struggling anytime soon.

Shia as a human aside, I would have absolutely loved to see him playing this role. I think his age and acting style would make for a much more interesting watch and I’m curious of the chemistry he would have had with Florence especially with the age gap. I think Harry is visually a good fit for the role but seems typical. It’s a shame shia didn’t end up playing the part

Same. Putting aside his awful bizarre conduct and just going off his acting ability, he totally would’ve elevated this role. He has the intensity/maturity (aswell as actual acting ability) needed to pull it off. Plus him and Florence playing opposite each other would’ve been really interesting.

That being said I can think of about a million other men who fit this role better than Harry, I don’t think I’ve seen such blatant miscasting in a long time.

Shia is a really good actor. If he wasn’t a huge hole, he’d be in absolutely everything.

Since I posted here I watched a two parter movie called nymphomaniac starring Shia. Oof. I’ve never needed to avert my eyes from any movie like that one before but I think Shia brought to that what he would have brought to DWD. Now I’m doubly disappointed. He's criminally underrated as an actor!

and yep I second about Harry. I really hope we end up surprised because the plot itself sounds too good to end up being a flop because of poor casting

Re Don’t Worry Darling - there were press screenings this morning and although it’s currently embargoed, there’s already suggestions from people who went that it’s NOT good.

I read the script ages ago and it really wasn't good.Reminded me a lot of The Stepford Wives.
