Right beside an electrical junction of some sort that presumably powers the lights. Good idea. Though of course it would be well insulated. But I wouldn’t put a water butt beside an outdoor food prep area/kitchen, if I had one, which I don't.

I agree. I could be wrong but my guess is that they have no genuine intention of installing a water butt, he just needed to pay lip service to it for the #ad.

If they'd wanted a water butt, the time to plan for it would have been when they did the initial garden design which included some "zoning" of different areas. Squashed in between a Santorini kitchen unit on one side and raised outdoor lounge decking on another while blocking access to electrics (and is that pipework to/from the outdoor sink as well?) just ain't it.

Didn't these two partner with WaterAid at one point? You'd think something as simple as a water butt in the garden wouldn't be such an afterthought if that experience had given them any sensitivity about water use.

What’s the deal with this bloomin door in the upstairs landing? It’s disproportionately annoying me.

He did a (now deleted!) story yesterday showing the ‘dark’ hallway - which ‘only’ had 2 natural light sources when all the doors were closed. Wtf?

1/ it’s a landing, put the light on as you walk through?
2/ or leave some doors open?
3/ it has two windows filtering natural light to it, that seems like quite a lot of light, for you know, a landing!
4/ it is not a fake door, it’s a door. It’s kept locked cos you turned it into an en suite, but it is still a door into a bathroom that you weirdly only use from the spare bedroom.
5/ a window? In a wall, into another room? Really? You think that will look better than a lamp?
6/ and here we have it - the shelves around doors is a ridiculous insta trend he clearly would like gifted. Try harder Sly, it looks stupid. If that space was dark and problematic, why would you be making it look cluttered?

"Oh no Simon, it ruins the aesthetic and doesn't blend with any of the other elements!"

"What are you talking about Clemmie? It perfectly matches the fake grass!"

Surely the problem would be easily solved by... Opening the door 🤔?

No, they built a shower (spare room ensuite) directly on the other side of the door.

Honestly the complete lack of masterplanning and foresight in all their renovations makes me want to weep 😆

looooool. Wasn’t the labour for that bathroom gifted so it’d make sense that the trades didn’t give a tit about what a dumb tit idea that is…

The house will be so hard for them to sell as it’s so impractical as a family home. The small garden is reduced further in size by kitchen #4, the children have to pee in buckets as there’s not a bathroom for them to use on their floor. Where it was all gifted goods and labour it’s not done thinking of the house as a whole just the brief for the ad creative. There’s not even a drive is there 🥴 who tf would want it?

I have a landing with no natural light. I turn the light on, or leave a door open, depending on time of day. As a window above the door would look hideous and be extremely difficult to install (imagine digging through a wall over a shower, close to the glass shower screen), I suspect this is trawling for someone to put in shelves, but the space is too small and this would darken the area even more, and clutter it. But if it was free/discounted, would that matter? If you buy a house because of its victorian design, you keep what features reflect this, as the previous owners did when they installed the bathroom. Maybe a brighter, light reflective paint colour would have been a wiser choice?

Quote: 7" or 8" probably isn't enough. Depends...... 😂 Apologies, my mind temporarily descended to the gutter.

Simon's mockup of his brilliant idea of inserting a window above the non-door to let light in, vs the mockup after the shower on the other side's been in use a few times.

As an aside, I would be very wary indeed if I were a house guest of anyone who felt it was appropriate to insert an interior window into the visitors' shower area, especially if I knew that person had a lack of regard for the privacy/boundaries of others and a penchant for video cameras all over the place.

I’ve read these threads for a while now and genuinely interesting.
I had my third daughter a few month before they had the twins. She used to dress very similar, blond curls, although her clothes were mostly the Zara stuff and bought by us!
I used to enjoy looking at their life and felt it was relevant to where we were in our own- working mum, lots of kids, husband into bikes etc etc.
Very quickly it changed, I was on Mat leave and the clothes became very expensive, holidays, the move to the massive house and it felt like their life just took off. I look back and laugh at the random tit I bought, I suppose to keep up. I didn’t have mother or mama merch though, thank duck!
Another thing I noticed when reading this was about the 10 year anniversary Gucci handbag, I remember when it arrived and she did a post saying she had bought it for herself as a treat for either getting a book deal or her book being a best seller- no mention of him buying it for Anniversary so wonder who was telling the truth on that!

My mum's house has internal glass above the bedroom and bathroom doors as standard. It's an ex LA house and they make what would be a dark hole of a landing a lot lighter.
