Ex Slimming World Disordered Eating Recovery #2 Underestimating Our Desire To Eat Pasta

Not really irresponsible when he actually says in the post 'don't ask the calories it's 1850'

As for that amount of calories its actually typical for a full cooked breakfast at places like Toby Cavery, Wetherspoons etc

How is putting that up irresponsible?
Would you be happier if he put up SW sausage from iceland, bacon medallions and eggs in frylight? Whats the irresponsibility here? Someone from SW sees it and assumes its syn free? Thats their own fault and anyway breaking out of a syns mindset will do them good.

If someone is as triggered as you claim to be by seeing non SW food. They are the one with the disordered eating.

This is an ex SW thread. I applaud anyone who moves away from SW to CC. If someone does it's then ridiculous to try and police what they eat and then say they still have a responsibility to SW members.

Oh and it is possible to lose weight eating high calorie meals and lose weight. Shaming people for calories and portion sizes because it doesn't fit with your vision of what losing weight should be is disordered thinking.

He's not claiming it's SW food. He's doing CC.

Completely agree with this!
You can be a slimming page... Losing weight.. Whatever and still eat mcdonalds ect. And lose weight.

People would be quick to complain if they didn't share those things too and say it's unrealistic.

If he's stepped away from Slimming World then he needs to stop using the hashtag to gain likes/followers. They all do it when they swap plans and it irritates me so much

True.
But the OPs point was more about the size and calories in his portion not the hashtags.

They all do it though and while it is wrong, i'd rather see someone use SW hashtags while openly calorie counting than someone claiming there doing SW (SW in bio, posting their certs and going group) but in reality their 'on plan' food is heavily restricting and low carbing

If I came across that pic on my page under the sw tag I'd assume that it was a typical massive SW "syn free" dinner is all I'm saying. It's like an undisclosed AD the cals are right at the bottom. If he's cal counting it's best to state the cals first and stop using SW/WW tags

I can see both of your points but that's just my 50p worth

to be fair some of the men I work with have a calorie maintenance of 2300-2500 calories a day so that isn’t so crazy. As long as for the rest of the day they keep it within balance! I think the issue people have is that people portray this as a normal sized meal, so people go away and view it as acceptable to have that + two other meals and snacks over the weekend.

Sorry if I triggered anyone, I know it’s an ex sw thread and I’m an ex slimming worlder, hence why I’m here. He was a sw account but as I stated in my second post, I think he’s now calorie counting so that was my first mistake.
I stand by what I said that if you’re an account that claims to be slimming, and posting slimming friendly meals, and as someone else has rightly stated using hashtags that corroborate with a variety of slimming diets so people on those diets can find you, it’s irresponsible to post a meal you claim to be slimming when it’s likely to be the full daily allowance of a lot of your followers.
It’s the same gripe I had with slimming world accounts posting their off plan meals under the hashtag, I personally don’t think it helps anyone other than them getting likes

I've found a lot do it even when they're not photos of food!
They'll post a photo of their family, or a view from their day and still tag it all 😂

That person in particular is deffo misleading people. Not only is he using #slimmingworld he's also using #foodoptimising ...That's the whole bullshit core of the sw plan. You don't "food optimise" when you count cals, you just eat bloody food 🙄 all of his meals look like sw ones to me and he's then trying to pass them off on his website as his own guide to home cooking.

I could be wrong, happy to be corrected! But it's a bit "pinch of nom" to me 😄

I wonder if they have a shortcut set up on their phone. When I used to use Instagram more I had a shortcut for posting a range of tags relating to what I was posting. I’d delete anything not relevant but they’re maybe too lazy for that.

Or I’m probably just being too kind and they know fine and are doing it for engagement.

I know Enjoying.Being.Emma and someone else were asked before and they said they keep it in a note on their phone and copy and past it every time!

But it is simply for engagement because it gets their posts out there for anyone searching any of those hashtags

I'd say it's to appeal to people doing SW..."slimming friendly" is normally code for "fits in with the slimming world plan but I don't want to get sued for copyright infringement" 😄

There's no law of course with people doing sw and cal counting but it seems a bit pointless to me if you're cal counting. That's the whole point of sw as they say, they try and do it for you. I don't think it's that helpful to mix the two as you're just creating even more diet culture rules to follow. But each to their own and all that

So glad I found these threads. I‘ve put on a shitload of weight due to menopause and now have a stomach the size of a small planet. I did SW and initially lost about 1.5 stone but I utterly hated the food and the groups gave me the rage with the constant clapping and weigh in anxiety. Even though I only did it for a short time, I still struggle with not thinking of olive oil as ‘bad’ and buckets of pasta ‘good’.

I‘m mainly trying now to eat sensibly, drink less and I was already a frequent gym goer - another thing that I hated about SW - you could exercise all day long and it didn’t count for anything according to them.

That's the trouble with sw, unless you've got a health condition that requires you to monitor your fat intake, you don't need to eat ultra "low fat". The weigh ins and Image Therapy is enough to leave you needing professional therapy. So damaging and ridiculous. Once you see past the bullshit, you can't really go back to it, it's like leaving a cult.

It sounds like you're doing the right thing. It took me a long time too to realise I was eating foods that I really didn't enjoy, just because they were "on the plan" Hormonal weight gain is hard to tackle, but it can be done. It just comes off so much slower.

I feel the same way about Quark.

Yep! And scanbran 🤮

I never had a binge and purge issue until I joined SW - the pressure to get a loss each week was horrendous.

I was a comfortable size 12 but because I weighed 12stone (I’ve got disproportionately massive boobs) and was still in the overweight category, I was encouraged to lose another stone. I look back on the pics of myself, and I looked fantastic! But I remember constantly feeling not good enough because of the numbers on a scale.

I’m now much heavier after having a baby 8 months ago -the feeling of shame and guilt is still there, despite birthing a beautiful baby and being able to breastfeed. It really messes you up

I like tinned tomatoes. I cook from scratch a lot so get through a lot of them. I did find though that SW recipes are really weird compared to the normal way I’d cook things. Like risotto is already ‘syn-free’ and about as easy as it gets. But their recipes would be oven baked versions full of quark. So pointless. Oh and the amount of times things would have a spoonful of sweetener in them. Yuck.

I think I’m just bitter because I once made a filo fish pie that took about five hours, used every pan in the kitchen, and was complete tit.

I realised that my mental health about going to the gym was worse following SW image therapy. My consultant was nice TBF however everyone just wanted to moan.
Im now CC using lose it and going to the gym at least 1 x a week and trying to walk more.

also TTC so trying not to put the pressure on myself about my weight; just concentrate on health and fitness
