Ex Slimming World Disordered Eating Recovery #2 Underestimating Our Desire To Eat Pasta

1
hey all, ex-SWer here. I am giving up the plan entirely, and i am just wondering whats the best source for recipes. I used to use pinch of nom but ive heard bad stuff recently, and i'm not sure whether to just stick to it anyway, or if anyone had any recommendations. i have zero food creativity so cant make my own recipes up!
I’ve been using the Bored of Lunch books. The Air Fryer one and the Slow Cooker one.
Really great recipes and they give a calorie count for the recipe plus additional calories for some recipes if you serve with rice or pasta.

I've had a word with myself today and started inputting my food into Nutracheck again. Desperation was starting to kick in and that feeling of 'oh but you did so well on SW last time' which for me was during the last lockdown when I was off work for almost 6 months so yes of course I did well because I had all day every day to obsess over syns and healthy extras and I was in control of everything I ate because I was home all the time. I was transferring money to my consultant every week for doing absolutely jack tit apart from liking the odd photo I put on the Facebook group 😂 then I piled it all back on and then some when life returned to normal.

I was a member twice more after that but never got past my half stone award, I can't stand going to group tbh. I know some people really enjoy it but the ones I've been to are like watching paint dry.

Thank you to the person who recommended the BBC food website for low calorie meals, there are some lovely ones on there!

Anyone tried slimpod? I’m kind of disappointed. I liked the Paul McKenna plan but found the half hour recordings difficult to get through. Slimpod is only nine minutes long so thought I’d give it a try. But it’s so bloody cult like. You have to sit through endless videos and the Facebook group is just hun central with endless posts where people won’t shut the duck up about their lives. Half of them seem to still be doing SW type diets anyway, so what is the point of Slimpod?

I’d be interested in a similar plan that’s not been hunned. I cannot read another post about getting ready for holibobs or crying because they fell on a crisp.

Sorry don’t mean to sound judgy but I just googled it, and anything that says it requires “no willpower” is bullshit to me. It takes a duck load of willpower to lose weight. I’m currently on 1350 a day prepping to hit my final target weight. You want to bet I’m not thinking about food every minute and the birthday cake I got last weekend isn’t sitting on my kitchen counter taunting me?! I’m exercising willpower to get me through the next two weeks after which I will be able to eat cake whenever I fancy it within a calorie controlled framework in order to maintain my weightloss. It’s science. You just have to want it enough 🤷🏻‍♀️

It might be better not to share numbers for individual caloric intake here? It can inspire dangerous comparisons for vulnerable readers and invite judgement and unsolicited opinions for those sharing too.

I joined the trial out of curiosity and yes it is so hun and so culty, I immediately hit cancel.

Fair enough, sorry if it upset anyone. I would say though that knowledge is power here. Understanding that a 5ft1 50kg woman needs vastly different calories to deficit or maintain compared to one who is 5ft11 and 90kg (especially depending on her time of the month) or a man who is 6ft3 and 150kg, seems important to me and not something that SW ever talk about!

Absolutely. Context is key. But as someone who favours restriction, all I have to do is see a number lower than my current and it becomes my new target. Whether it’s relevant to me or not. Maybe I’m alone in that in which case sorry for generalising something personal.

Understand your point but a lot of people also think the lower the cals they’re on , they more they will lose weight without realising they are just gonna duck their metabolism up by undereating

often people will see 1200 as the magics number to lose weight because that’s what society talk about but some often need educated , guided , supported and shown tdee calculators instead of relying on those daft apps like nutracheck and MFP

Restriction is not healthy.

I also don't think this is the right thread for encouraging or promoting restrictive behaviour.

This thread is for people to get support and move forward from restrictive behaviour post SW not a thread to exchange restrictive diet tips.

If you think restriction works for you, good luck to you. But please be mindful of what you post and promote.

No no. Apologies if I was unclear. It’s wildly unhealthy. Incredibly disordered. I’ve battled it for the last decade. It works for me only in that it’s destroyed my body and mind. My every waking thought is occupied by food, numbers, what I can eat and when. I am absolutely not promoting it. It’s a horrific existence.

Lots to unpack with this one. I’ve nothing against this woman, but she’s a prime example of how SW messes up your relationship with food and dieting. It just seems to make people fear certain foods and cower around the scales. You’re allowed to enjoy a meal out without having to restrict to “make up for it”.

It's the on/off plan mentality that's so damaging and distorts food relationships. It is training you to feel good about yourself when you restrict, and to feel bad when you eat something a bit more indulgent. So toxic!
