I’d argue that Saade and Bambie could be seen as political but they’re not on the same level of being political as general participation of a country in an international event like Eurovision. The majority of people wouldn’t know that the other two are protesting if it wasn’t pointed out to youisrael taking part* is a political statement
eric saade holding a keffiyeh is not the equivalent of a national flag and is not a political statement
tali dedicating 'fighter' to her brother in the iof is a political statement
bambie calling for a ceasefire is not a political statement
*with a song that underwent numerous revisions after lyrics were deemed to be referencing oct 7th
There’s a reason we have shunned Russia and Belarus from the international community
It’s also amusing that Ukraine is allowed to dedicate their turquoise carpet looks to representing Ukrainians who can’t go back home because of the war (hence the keys). They had the same key when they passed to the final. Haven’t heard the EBU condemning them for something that could be seen as a political action even if the majority of the audience don’t necessarily know the meaning
Oh and they seem to have made a post about it on IG too:
Eurovision 2024 Kicks Off in Malmö with Touching Opening Ceremony
The duo Alyona Alyona & Jerry Heil made a striking entrance on the Turquoise Carpet. Their outfits, adorned with keys, symbolized homes lost due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
