And it’s literally not even a flag he was showing, so Eurovision is really being the worst once again. They simply don’t want any sign of Palestinian life to be seen. They said flags from non-participating countries are banned, so Eric didn’t even break that rule.

German media of course calls this a provocation 🙄

It also severely put me off that they apparently edited fake cheering into the tv edit for the Israeli act that didn’t actually exist. I don’t mind the anti-booing technology to make it less awful for the artist, but adding cheering is controlling a fake narrative to me and it’s disgusting.

I was borderline over watching the final but now I will not be, reading this has just cemented this decision.

🙄

Apparently they’re going to make a few jokes about how Eurovision is apolitical during the second semi. Given the whole situation this year it just feels badly placed

I even found the social commentary jokes from yesterday a bit odd and off putting

I saw a Turkish flag in the crowd yesterday so the rule isn’t even being enforced fully

I doubt they’re not doing proper checks because there’s been much discussion about the terrorism threat and they wouldn’t risk a Palestinian flag or symbol getting into the arena atp

Might actually watch it this year - could be entertaining with all the disagreements going on around and about.

That's not to be flippant about situations - its an in-joke from Auto Shenanigans on YT - the Second World War is known as the second minor disagreement to keep things light and on track when exploring WW2 sites along the road network

Ireland's entry is absolute dog poop. Devil worshipy scream fest, it's not even catchy.
My Irish OH watched it and was mortified 😂 Load of try hard nonsense.
I don't want political statements either. Eurovision is an escape and a chance for countries to unite for the purposes of fun and entertainment (hopefully). There are numerous other avenues for people to express their views, and good for them.

israel taking part* is a political statement
eric saade holding a keffiyeh is not the equivalent of a national flag and is not a political statement
tali dedicating 'fighter' to her brother in the iof is a political statement
bambie calling for a ceasefire is not a political statement

*with a song that underwent numerous revisions after lyrics were deemed to be referencing oct 7th
