Eurovision Song Contest 2024 #4

surely photographers also know the rules they're contracting to though? respect artists individual needs and personal space?

Absolutely but responding by threatening one was never going to be acceptable, as it wouldn’t be in any workplace.

He fucked up and faced the consequences and the Dutch broadcaster have inexplicably thrown their toys out of the pram over the EBU taking the only reasonable course of action at the time.

Rightly or wrongly, it’s stories like this that make me suspect the Dutch broadcasters/teams and so on have a different standard of acceptable to many other places and makes me doubt what they say about Joost is true. I am not saying he did anything on this scale to the worker at Eurovision but if they’re shocked by all the fuss about a child rapist competing in the olympics and will defend him, I suspect their scale of acceptable behaviour is very very different to mine and Joost may well have crossed the line into very threatening conduct while they shrug and insist he did nothing wrong.

Another article explaining the perspective of VAWG from the Dutch authorities.

Needless to say, I fully believe the woman at the ESC that she was threatened beyond what should be considered acceptable, whether or not she was taking a picture she shouldn’t. I also believe the EBU made the right choice and the Dutch broadcasters are minimising it just as they minimise the convicted rapist representing them at the olympics because their stance on even the worst kind of VAWG is sadly lacking so I imagine their attitude to a man threatening a woman to be exactly as it was proved to be at the ESC.

Comparing Joost to a rapist is an insane reach. So many people have recounted their negative experiences within the contest this year, and it seems quite clear that the issue stemmed from the accessibility requirements for Joost's severe mental health problems being disregarded. The most recent update says that the Swedish (!) lawyer believes the case will get dropped, and also detailed that the woman had approached him multiple times before the incident so I really think you should do you research and give your head a wobble before you start comparing people to rapists because they are from the same place

I didn’t compare him to a rapist. I said that the Dutch broadcasters attitude towards violence against women and girls is clearly very different to mine, as shown by how little of a tit they give about being represented by a convicted paedophile. If they are willing to minimise even that, then it makes me sure they’d minimise Joost threatening a woman. His mental health is not an excuse for it in the slightest.

You might want to give your head a wobble and work on your reading comprehension while you’re at it.
