Emetophobia - any fellow sufferers? What do you do to cope?

1
Every parent I've spoken to at work today has a kid off with the bug. I am exhausted with the anxiety. GP hasn't been very helpful and just told me to self refer to counselling so feeling fed up and like this is just going to be me for the rest of my life now. I'm hoping as my kids get older the bugs will be less frequent

My niece was so poorly on Sunday/monday (being sick) I had already agreed weeks ago to babysit her and her sibling on Friday (tomorrow) nobody else has been ill in their house and she hasn’t been sick since Monday. I am obviously not wanting to babysit but I promised, I am terrified I’ll catch something! Is it possible to still be in the house? It’ll have been 4 days since the last episode of sick!

as long as you wash hands you should be fine.

I've found this oddly comforting. It breaks down the facts and myths of noro and how to effectively clean and protect yourself

I found that article really comforting actually. I’m going to save it and use it as my bible!

My little one was taken into A&E by ambulance last night and now I am shitting myself in case we caught something. Last time I was in that hospital I got that awful 8 day diarrhoea and lost 1.5 stone.

I hope your little one is ok? Xx

He’s doing okay! Dreadful croup episode. He’s just having a little sleep in bed next to me now.

Have to laugh though - this bloody phobia - when he started barking coughing at 9.30pm last night he was coughing so much he was making him do really sicky sounding gags. First thing I do is cover the bed in towels and put gloves on. Because I was scared of any vomit. Luckily he was ok and it was just because he couldn’t catch his breath.

I also found that link really helpful. Thank you. I am an avid hand washer & don’t use a public toilet ever. I also refuse to use the toilets at work too. I am also really iffy about door handles, hand rails, and also picking up objects when I’m out shopping. What hand sanitiser are you all using? I’ve just googled mine and it’s ineffective for noro as it’s alcohol based and they’re resistant to it.

You need to get on Amazon and buy anything with the brand CLINELL.

it’s hospital grade germ killer. And kills noro.

I’ve got the house surface wipes and hand gel

I just got on the train and there was a big V on the floor. Feeling very anxious about it. I left the area as soon as I could and walked as far down the train as possible. I keep getting flashbacks of what it looks like and am worried about particles in the air. No sign of the person so no idea how long it's been there

It’s probably alcohol induced. Someone either drunk or hungover. I would do exactly what you did though.

There's nothing like the fear of getting woken in the middle of the night by one of your kids (just for a bad dream thankfully) and then going off into a panic spiral about the noises coming from your partner's belly.

Still panicking that it's not just a bad dream and they won't settle because something is wrong. I hate middle of the night brain.

I’m the same. When I was younger and still lived at home if I heard anyone getting up to go into the bathroom in the middle of the night I would lay awake listening and could almost hear my heart beating with panic to make sure things were okay.

I’m so scared right now.
My son was taken into hospital over the weekend for bad croup. He’s got a nasty cough and snotty nose. But earlier today both his eyes started swelling up and bright green discharge from them.
I googled it and it looks like he’s got Adenovirus.

Im cool with that. But the symptoms “can include” vomiting and diarrhoea. And it’s very contagious.
I’m not scared of the cough or the eyes, I can cope. But not with the other possible symptoms.

Do you think he would have been sick by now if it was going to affect his tummy? It’s been 3 days of respiratory symptoms.
