That doctor was useless. I’m not a doctor and even I can see that Jean isn’t right. Whilst I do find Jean annoying at the moment that’s kind of the point isn’t it? She’s having a manic episode and they’re showing how challenging and frustrating it can be for loved ones to deal with, but also how scary it can be as the person suffering has no idea/is in denial. I think it’ll all come to a head when Jean has a near death experience after doing something risky, I don’t think she’ll die though.
I think she will terrify one of her grandkids and that might convince her something isn't right.

I get they need to show the reality of a manic episode but if I wanted a class in MH I’d watch a documentary.

Also most importantly for me we have been here before with Jean. They have shown her spiralling before, they’ve even shown the same for Stacey at various points.

She isn’t a main character, never was, the writers need to stop being so lazy and relying on her for the topic of the week/uncomfortable humour not when you have other characters, just as rich in back story and history that doesn’t involve MH.

We have Linda back in the square, Shirley dealing with the aftermath of Grey and his murder spree, we even have Kat coping with her kids and phil’s business. So many characters they could be focussing on instead of Jean.

I’m not sure where you’re coming from. Soaps always touch on a variety of topics that affect normal (but usually exaggerated) life. Why is a MH storyline so wrong?

The Jean storyline is really annoying. I actually think it's quite well done, as in, the change in personality is subtle enough that it's only obvious if you know her. But I have always hated Jean, I hate any storyline where she is the main character. I hope she leaves after this, maybe she could run off with Mick Carter.

Ben as a vigilante is completely unrealistic, he was frozen with fear due to a few bangs at the start of the episode but beating someone half to death by the end 🤦🏼‍♀️ also not realistic because he killed Heather and hasn't been violent since due to his serious regrets

i think because jean's character has become a sort of comic relief in some wags the last few years it's quite hard for many viewers to understand what's actually happening and she just seems 'annoying' , idk if they've done this one right given the context and it seems a bit sudden. been watching the 2008 episodes and gillian wright really portrays the character well , especially depressive episodes but it is barely even the same character and the writing is making jean seem like a joke and stacey to just be nagging rsther than what's actually happening
idk where they'll take it but somehow i feel like it isn't portraying long term mental illnesses like bipolar so well. also they just forgot stacey struggles with it too except for a random mention to harvey, unless the point of this story is to trigger stacey into a manic episode

Yes I agree. I find the Jean storyline quite amusing 😄 but I'm not sure if that's what the writers are aiming for.

As for Ben becoming a vigilante it's totally crazy. He was always a character with a short fuse who was prone to doing stupid things because he can't control his temper, but the idea that he's going around targeting people to attack now is quite awful.

Didn't Halfwit say that more than one man has been attacked?

I should have explained better, it’s not that the MH storyline is so wrong, it’s because we’ve been here before with Jean over the years, anything related to MH is not going to be a short storyline but do we need to relive it with the same character over and over again? The character is annoying at the best of times, they infantilise her (same with Honey) and when she used minimally it’s bearable, but when she is front and centre for weeks and weeks, it’s boring and repetitive.

The actress who plays Honey and the actor who plays Jack have fantastic chemistry. That's a couple I'd have liked to see.
I don't get Jack and Denise as a couple whatsoever and the same goes for Honey and Jay.
Jamie Borthwick is criminally underused in general actually.
Jay had such better storylines when he was younger, and he's a great actor so i don't understand why he does nothing now. It's like they forgot him and ben were basically brothers when ben got a new actor

honey and jack make so much more sense as a pairing and the actors really do have great chemistry. jack and denise have never made sense to me and i got the vibe (on that secrets from the square series) that scott maslen wasn’t a huge fan either.

i’ve always wanted jay with whitney! but jamie borthwick really is on the most underused actors on the show - he’s fantastic and i wish they’d give him some of the endless storylines they give ben.

Jay is brilliant. He definitely needs to be better used. Him and Ben used to be a great duo when Harry Reid was Ben. We need more of Ben and Jay teaming up to take over Walford, but in a more legal, good way.
