It seems like the writers thought 'oh lets do a murder with 6 women' then got stuck on how to keep them all from going to jail so decided to stick the blame on Dean when there is no motive, there will be none of his DNA on the murder weapon, none on the tarpaulin and none on the body.
I’ve wondered about this, obviously his dna will now be on the weapon as he held it but surely they’d be running forensics on the tarpaulin too?
