I swear her name was Lizzie Bardsley?

Yep, Lizzie & Mark Bardsley. They're divorced now I believe.

The best bit of that Wife Swap was when they captured Mark walking down "Uncouth Road" (actual genuine street in Rochdale) šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£

I just googled Lizzie, in shock she is only 47 now which means she must have been 29 or 30 when Wife Swap was on

Another nauseating but weirdly intriguing docu was one from around 15 years ago called Our Turkish Toyboys. Was 2 rough women going to Turkey to look for men and what made it seedier was one of their young daughters was in the next bedroom having it off with a barman and her 11 year old brother looked damaged by the whole setup with the mum and her mate bringing men back, barely paying the poor lad attention. I remember at the time everyone felt sorry for the lad thinking when the TV show is on heā€™ll get bullied the next day but the women were hard as nails. Gave British women on holiday a bad name and after watching it again on youtube I just hope the kids grew up ok

I think about child of our time quite a lot, and canā€™t get my head round the fact that they are all adults now. I havenā€™t actually watched it since they were in their early teens but Iā€™ve looked at the web page on bbc over the years - I remember 3 red head triplet girls, a girl whoā€™s mum died and that poor boy who was the son of a lady who had no limbs... and he died recently of an overdose. So sad after the way she managed to bring him up herself against the odds.

I remember another random documentary/realty series on channel 5 ā€œThe week we went wildā€ about a family who had to live in some jungle type place (canā€™t remember if it was in the UK or not). The children had real resentment for the mother, and her teenage boy called her a bleeping slag for having eight kids by six different men and I think the mother cried. It was so trashy and disgusting that Channel 5 just stopped showing it after one or two episodes (and you know itā€™s bad if it was too trashy for even channel 5!!)

Not a documentary but I read about a girl called Lauren Kavanaugh who suffered the most horrific abuse as a child. Sheā€™d been given up for adoption by her birth mum and adopted by a lovely couple, but the birth mum decided she wanted her back. There was some sort of issue with the adoption papers which meant the adoptive parents lost her.

I donā€™t want to go into detail about what her birth mum and her boyfriend did to her but It was absolutely awful, one of the worst cases of child abuse Iā€™ve ever read about. Eventually someone called the police on them and her adoptive parents got her back but she was so damaged, mentally and psychically.

It was so distressing itā€™s really stuck with me and I often think about and wonder how she is now.

ETA: I just googled her name after writing this. She is now in her 20s and was recently arrested for having a sexual relationship with a 14 year old girl. She faces 20 years in prison... Iā€™m really shocked!

I saw that, she was on Dr. Phil a few years back. It was horrible and sickening.

Iā€™ve heard about this. Itā€™s absolutely awful. I donā€™t understand why these parents want their children back just to torture them. The same happened with Gabriel Fernandez, he lived with his uncles, then his grandparents and finally his mum and step dad. His mum and step dad tortured the poor boy to death. I just canā€™t fathom how these people work, makes me so sad that people can hurt innocent children. In fact itā€™s heartbreaking.

Not a documentary but Emily Hayward on YouTube. I followed all her videos until she passed away and both me and my mum cried a lot when she did die. Think it was watching her go from fit and healthy to slurring and getting ā€˜slowā€™ and almost being in denial about it...her next video was her wife talking about her passing it was so sudden. She still pops into my head quite often, I follow her wife on Instagram, she has a baby now and bought a house. She would be so proud.

Also, the recent Rob Burrows one, never heard of him but I cried and cried and cried at that!

Great thread.

Quite a few. One in particular stands out. Watched Children's Hospital on BBC one summer after having my tonsils out (1999?). It was on every week day morning just after the news. There was a little boy on there who I think was called Ali(?). Absolutely lovely- making jokes and just being incredible despite having what I think was leukemia On the last episode the screen went blank and we were told he'd lost his battle and died. Even though I was only young myself, it really stuck with me. I hope his family are well and, if they ever saw this, can take some comfort knowing that, 21 years later, their little boy is still fondly remembered in the heart and mind of a stranger.

I remember Childrenā€™s Hospital on BBC . Iā€™m sure the little boys name was Aaron . It has stayed with me all this time too.

They showed her story on gogglebox again last week and it reminded me about her as I watched it when it first went out. It was such a hard watch to see her decline. I found her wife on Instagram and was so lovely to see how sheā€™s getting on. Such a sad story

The Gabriel documentary was so graphic I have never seen anything like it. The Poor poor baby

Yes! I was so upset when Marva went back too her old ways, I was really hoping this baby would change her as sheā€™s had 3 children in foster care already. Really is heartbreaking.

Couldnā€™t stand that dad though. Whose son Toby got taken off him for neglect. He was just vile!!!!

yess and the other, more family friendly series on the BBC just called Holiday Reps. Used to be on of a Thursday night and there was a girl in it who married a fit Spanish barman and it inspired me to apply for rep jobs when I was old enough šŸ˜‚ ended up being an air hostess instead as I also loved the first series of Airline in 1998- the first series wasnā€™t Easyet but Britannia and had these 2 jack the lads on who just wanted to be crew to cop off with passengers, a gay bloke called BJ who lived with his mum, a checkin staff who got stood up at Palma airport and more funny characters. I always wonder what happened to them all!
I work for an airline and one of the girls was working for Britannia around the time it was being filmed but was too shy to be filmed. in fact I think maybe a couple are still left but Iā€™d have to find out which ones.

I love Child of Our Time.
I often wonder what happened to the little boy James. His mum had learning difficulties and they had quite a deprived background. Theyā€™ve not been on the updates for years. I hope he turned out ok because he didnā€™t have a great start in life.
It was also sad about Parys who took his own life last year.
So many people mentioning a child of our time. Was this years ago or more recent? I need to watch this.

I watched the first one. I agree that Tobys dad was the big problem.
The episode ended and updated that the baby girl had been adopted but Toby hadn't been. The decision to separate them was due to his special needs. Poor boy, I hope he got his happy ending.
