Good theory. I felt like the husband knew more than he was letting on. Maybe he didn't want to believe she had been drinking that day to aliviate his own guilt in whatever happened. Definitely a sad story. Also interesting that the parents of the other children involved wouldn't take part.
I’m not surprised after Daniel Schuler tried to sue them!! Saying their minivan was faulty and that is why Diane crashed.
Also none of the children were in car seats or had seatbelts on. Such a horrific situation.

I didn't know any of that! Is there more info out there about this case?

The Wesrboro Baptist docs by Louis Theroux were fascinating

The sad thing is that Shirley Phelps Rooer has lost so many of her children as adults.

Meghan Phelps Roper was the image of her Mum and they were very close . Meghan seemed a fully paid up member of the "church" but was actually questioning things in her head and in talking to others. She eventually left with her sister and married an outsider.

When Louis last interviewed Shirley she was very emotional about her children who had left. Megan still delivers birthday cards etc to her Mum and the door is very much open for Shirley to make contact but that would involve her going against everything she has practised her whole life.

Last I heard the church had been taken over by an incomer and one of Shirley's sons. Women there are now very much controlled by men...but it was probably always so. Shirley no longer has a voice nor is she allowed one it seems.

"Bulgaria's Abandoned Children" has haunted me since I watched it. I was so relieved when I saw the update "Bulgaria's Abandoned Children: Revisited". The whole setup in the orphanage was shocking. So much blatant abuse happening and also being hinted at in the original documentary. I'm glad that positive changes were made after the international outcry.

I couldn’t believe that that documentary actually made me feel sorry for Shirley at one point! Brilliant documentary, very revealing.

One on Netflix about the man charged with murder but he was innocent and he was at a baseball game at the time of the crime. Police had no way of verifying his alibi though so it looked like he wad screwed but then they discovered that HBO had filmed an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm thats day at the stadium & he was in the background shot, proving his alibi.
Makes me think how easily things could’ve swung for him.

I think one of the members of leadership is actually a guy who was part of a film crew who thought the church was great and decided to stay!

Also Megan Phelp's book is fantastic. Really recommend it. And again you do get some sympathy and understanding to what the church are trying to achieve, but of course going about it in a very hateful way.

Don’t know if this has already been mentioned, so apologies if so. But Dear Zachary pops into my head at least once a week. Got to be the most heart wrenching thing I’ve ever seen. Give it a watch if you’re into true crime - but a word of warning, it is absolutely not for the faint hearted. It’s stuck with me for years.

A documentary called BBC Poor Kids, still available on YouTube. It followed three families with children all around 8-10 years old who were all living in poverty on various areas of the UK. The recent issues with free school meals has made me think of those kids, and all the others around the UK, a lot this week. Mainly because I don’t think people truly understand the depravity that some people in Britain face.
The kids would all be 18 ish now, and it just makes me wonder what happened to them.

Ah god, we had to watch this at uni. The little Scottish girl with the severe eczema absolutely broke my heart.

Does anyone remember the documentary Keith Allen made about Lauren Harries? This was way before Lauren did the reality TV circuit.

The whole family had these weird fake doctorates, Lauren’s therapist turned out to be her own mum under a different name, the dad tried to sue the government, it was just bizarre. They ended up having a showdown in a restaurant with Keith Allen I think. Absolutely nuts, of course though now everyone laughs along with Lauren but I remember being disturbed by her parents at the time.

Not sure if anyone has already mentioned this, but Abducted in Plain Sight (Netflix). I was literally saying wtaf?! Every few minutes.
Briefly, a family's daughter was abused by a neighbour, the parents knew and let it continue. When the girl's father confessed that he had given this neighbour a blowjob, I nearly fell over. Plus the girl's mum seemed to be in love with this neighbour. Absolute insanity.
Just when you think it couldn’t get any worse, it bloody does! I remember thinking “wtf is this I’m watching?!” 😂 🙈

I thought this too, the best bit was when the dad says, “when your neighbour asks you for some relief, well you give him some relief”🤣🤣 I couldn’t believe the mum, the dad and the daughter were all sexually involved with him, it was bizarre.
