Perhaps I'm wrong but I always thought that a single parent was one who raised their child alone, or at least did the vast majority of the care, and I can't imagine that's the case for all of these guys describing themselves as such. More like they use the term to sound endearing and admirable.

I've no idea and Google isn't helping. I wonder if he's getting confused with the phrase "turn up like a bad penny". That wouldn't make sense in context either, but he's obviously thick, so it's possible.

Use of 'Single dad' is weird in this context.
1) You are on a dating site, so surely being single is a prerequisite (mind you, given what has been posted on these threads in the past...)
2) His kids are independent, so how much active 'single dadding' is he doing? It's not like he has a 5 & 8yr old taking up a lot of his time.
