We’re in a much better position than we were in 6 months ago. Even if cases are rising (hopefully they won’t rise exponentially) we have many vaccinated/getting vaccinations so those falling seriously ill/death rate should not continue the upward trend seen in cases.

Those on a ventilator has gone up and we are back over a thousand in hospital for the first time in a while when it was around 850 the other week at our lowest point since September.
But actual daily admissions are staying pretty static still, it’s hovered between 100-150 since 18th May now.

I would expect that given that, the number on ventilators and in hospital would rise as admissions aren’t falling and less people are dying, so more are being treated and staying on ventilation is quite a long term thing for some patients. It’s still only 154 on ventilation in the whole of the UK compared with 4K+ at the peak.

From what I’ve seen the admissions are pretty short and less serious. So a lot are also being discharged every day

I can’t help but feel that the people making comments on Twitter and social media saying “what’s 2 or 4 more weeks, a small price to pay for things to go back to normal” either have their heads firmly in the sand or are blissfully naive. If the government push unlocking back by 4 weeks they are almost certainly going to find a reason to continue to delay it. If now isn’t a good time what makes them think things will be any different in 2/4/6 weeks time? By then there will be another variant doing the rounds, cases aren’t going to decrease because people are mixing. Give it until September then we will see the usual seasonal rise of flu and other respiratory illness, coupled with this round of vaccines starting to wear off and we’re basically back to square one. They have to bite the bullet at some point and we have to live with this. So those saying “don’t be dramatic, it’s just a few more weeks” please realise, it’s NOT just a few more weeks. The second they delay this unlocking we may as well give up on having freedom restored this year.

There news about young people breaking records by booking a million vaccine alone got to me. They’ve been blamed for being the super spreaders and not being vaccinated despite not offering it and in some ways have sacrificed the most. But when it’s their then they’ve grabbed it even though most won’t get ill from it. Just shows how much people want their lives back I guess now 😢

This is amazing!

I’m no scientist but if you open up society before “everyone” has the opportunity to be immunised of course hospital admissions are going to go up.

No doubt even after all adults have been offered they will still be higher than pre covid because a % of people cant or won’t have a vaccine

FFS we just need to crack on with life 😩

Amazing after all the whinging that younger people wouldn’t have one!

I’m not shocked at all, every single ones of my friends and colleagues in this age group has already booked! I’m in this group and booked as soon as I got my message.

And nope, I’m not doing it just because I’m ‘desperate to get back to normal and think it’s the way out’ before anyone says that’s the only reason we are all up for getting jabbed 🤪

And nope - I’m not worried about getting covid either (would rather not tho, obvs).

We need a crack at opening up as per the road map. At least then we would get a few months of enjoying being out and about before the inevitable winter rush starts and we all get back on the lockdown merry go round. I’m done with it now. I’ve been vaccinated, I’ve stayed home, I’ve protected the NHS, my (everyone’s) children‘s education has suffered, the economy is on its knees, most people are sick of it and rightly so.

Younger adults but still includes 15 years of vulnerable people (50-64).
According to the ONS there’s a lot of hesitancy amongst the young

That's the question isn't it? Cases and hospital admissions are going to increase if controls are further relaxed on 21st June but by how much and how much is 'too much'? I'm sure you're not saying that nothing is 'too much' if it delays step 4.
