I speak to a paramedic (north west) that comes into my work. He was saying in the 15+years in the job he has never known anything like it is at the minute. He was saying on his last shift there was a man having a heart attack & had to wait 4hours for a free ambulance to attend to him, he sadly passed away. But think it shows how much severe pressure they are currently under.
At first I didn’t agree with another lockdown due to the economy, but after some of the things he was telling me i feel like it’s definitely the best option.

Has anyone had a phone call claiming to be from nhs checking if you’ve booked your child’s flu immunisation? They’re pushing it because of Covid apparently. Is it legitimate? They ask you to confirm your child’s details to them.

I would say yes if you're able to financially, the person visiting at the very least.
It's so hard when a loved one is going through end of life, lots of love to you and your family at this difficult time.

thanks for this! I was made redundant middle of last lockdown so technically on maternity leave now as couldn’t start new job due to being classed as vulnerable, my partner works from home so financially would be unaffected which is a plus on a horrible situation
I would be aware if it spread between us then next few days I visited supermarket etc, this is how it starts to snowball!

feel so much for everyone affected by this bloody virus

decided it can go away now :mad:

Yes I agree. Sometimes it takes something like this to remind everyone of other vitally important parts within the NHS that we all take for granted.

OMG. I am from Russia, where health services are not good at all, but if the great and wonderful NHS is brought to a standstill every single winter and 500 calls seem to be a bit too much, it does make me wonder what is wrong with it?
It's just from the one area though it would depend on how many ambulance's they have to cover that area .

I work for the ambulance service, not this trust. However, this highlights the problem that the nhs isn’t just hospitals, that staff in all parts of the nhs are overworked and having to cope with this pandemic.
Yes it's terrible the pressures forced upon them ,but you sure do miss it when it's not there .

Our area is covered by YAS so that's two areas that we know about. Wouldn't be surprised if other parts of the country are experiencing similar problems too.

Can I just ask? Before I post I get a Verification box asking me to confirm I'm not a robot. Does anyone know why please?

I've no idea put it on the mods thread ?

I have no idea how ambulance service works so do Covid calls get presidence over heart attack calls?

I was under the impression 119 was used as a Covid Hotline sort of thing where people called with their Covid related issue and were dealt with so 111 wasn't overwhelmed with these types of calls and others could get through. But I've just checked and it seems 119 is just for booking a test, symptoms check etc. How odd considering how many people are employed through that track and trace system.

There are 17 ambulance regions, of which two are in Ireland, one Wales, one Scotland, one service Jersey and Guernsey, one Isle of Wight and 11 covering England. Perhaps tomorrow we may hear an update about the situation.

I meant overall. I have been here for 4 years now and every winter I heard how NHS is overwhelmed. I mean they don’t even have to deal with actual frost bites! In Russia it’s minor injury units that get overwhelmed with frostbites and people falling over on actual frost and ice and snow, not the kind of ice that you get here. Normal hospitals get busier with flu and pneumonia, but I have never heard of a hospital being overwhelmed until I moved to UK.
Russia’s health services is not good, as I said before, but it does make me worry how easily NHS gets overwhelmed.
I cannot find numbers, but it seems to be that NHS has roughly 150 thousand doctors. Can’t find the numbers from Russia but the region with 2.8 million people has 4.6 thousand doctors. So who knows who have more.

I was thinking the 1 hour heart attack time when covid does not have a limit like that.
I don't know about England but we have a covid centre that assess people outside the main hospital they're then moved to a covid ward so most would go there voluntarily in their own transport or with a family member if they were feeling ill .I'm not sure how many covid patients need to travel by ambulance ?

But do we know what they do with patients in Russia? seems they're as transparent as China at times ,even that leaked video of the morgue a few days ago didn't look good.

Depends how unwell they are I'd imagine

not a phone call but I’ve had three separate letters to my children inviting them for flu vaccines. That was three weeks ago and have had them.
