Well here's a list of what the government defined as "underlying health conditions" at the start of the lockdown. (source https://www.somersetlive.co.uk/news...nderlying-conditions-coronavirus-risk-3959772 )

  • chronic (long-term) respiratory diseases, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema or bronchitis
  • chronic heart disease, such as heart failure
  • chronic kidney disease
  • chronic liver disease, such as hepatitis
  • chronic neurological conditions, such as Parkinson's disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, a learning disability or cerebral palsy
  • diabetes
  • problems with your spleen – for example, sickle cell disease or if you have had your spleen removed
  • a weakened immune system as the result of conditions such as HIV and AIDS or medicines such as steroid tablets or chemotherapy
  • being seriously overweight (a BMI of 40 or above)
  • people who have received an organ transplant and remain on ongoing immunosuppression medication
  • people with cancer who are undergoing active chemotherapy or radiotherapy
  • people with cancers of the blood or bone marrow such as leukaemia who are at any stage of treatment
  • people with severe chest conditions such as cystic fibrosis or severe asthma (requiring hospital admissions or courses of steroid tablets)
  • People with severe diseases of body systems, such as severe kidney disease (dialysis)

With the exception of a couple of those I would say all these are conditions which, in themselves, will sadly shorten a person's life expectancy regardless of whether they have Covid at the time of death or not. Therefore it would be wrong to say that these people died of Covid and therefore they shouldn't be included in the daily scary statistics.
I’m on that list as are millions of others because I’m asthmatic. I fall under vulnerable because I have an inhaler, that I use daily. I’ve never had an asthma attack or needed hospital treatment. I have a normal lifestyle with no issues.

I might sound really ignorant here, but I'm quite surprised learning disabilities are on the underlying health condition list. I don't see how a learning disability itself makes someone more at risk , I didn't realise it necessarily put someone at a physical disadvantage where covid is concerned.
I think because some learning disabilities usually come with other health problems and have a lower life expectancy, for example Downs Sydrome.

You are absolutely right, any idiot can have an opinion, I’ll leave it at that 😂 You can’t “assess” what you so painfully clearly don’t understand.

Thank you for being so patronising. Perhaps when you're older you'll understand that just because someone has a different opinion to you doesn't make them "ignorant".

Well if you’re being offensive what do you expect 🤷🏽‍♀️ I’m an ICU charge nurse, I have two medical degrees and a wealth of clinical experience. Your opinion in this instance does make you “ignorant”.

Lets hope you’re not over 40 or your in the “at risk “ group too

Just a tad off topic here, but with all the pretty grim Covid details, and the thought that West Yorkshire is being considered as the next region to go into Tier 3, I've just been out Xmas shopping.

Thought I'd share with you that The Perfume Shop has loads of great bargains. Really happy now.

As you were ...

A wee tip for anyone who’ll be doing a lot of their shopping online, download the Quidco app. You essentially shop via the app but are diverted to the website you search and receive a percentage back. Small amounts but they can really add up, particularly at Christmas/birthdays!
Disclaimer to add I’m in no way affiliated with this app 😂
