The ONS have released the latest death stats today (for week 14, two weeks ago). 6,082 more deaths than the five year average for that week. 3,475 mentioned coronavirus. That leaves 2,607 extra deaths not explained by coronavirus

That is way beyond a normal variation. The figures are clearly a steaming crock of tit - 2,600 extra people don’t die for no obvious reason during a pandemic!

Edit: reading that back just wanted to clarify I think many coronavirus deaths are not being recorded properly. That’s my issue with the figures

The Journalist that called out Trump last night at the daily update was Paula Reid of network CBS. I had a little read of her twitter comments. A real mixed bag of comments, many supporting Trump and others congratulating her. One of the replies saying she was disrespectful and deserved the response from him that she was a disgrace!

CBS is the BBC's partner station in the US. It's the mouthpiece of the Democratic party, just as the BBC is the mouthpiece of the Labour party.

I get what you are saying but I would imagine lots of other death tolls have been reduced due to lockdown measures - road traffic accidents for example?

I don’t have any number to compare I am just making assumptions here.

Also have they not said they were predicting the lockdown to reduce number of infections by up to 75% therefore if we didn’t have these measures in place we could be looking at numbers of deaths 4 times higher than current and possibly higher as hospitals would be at or beyond breaking point?

Again just my opinions here so anyone with facts feel free to correct me.
Again very true and good points!

Is it me or is everyone extra ratty today?

(I think it’s just me, I’ve been In work a few hours and had so many issues thrown at me and my toddler is driving me up the wall😂)
Oh I’m so glad you said this. I just rolled my eyes when my son started talking about mine craft again and felt really bad 😭 he’s been up and talking about his guitar since 7.30. Like literally look at this string and look how I move this string. And now it’s mine craft. I’ve been awake since 4.30, I’m having to limit and spread my caffeine out through the day because I’m expressing. I’ve got the pump permanently attached to me and all I really want is a glass of wine to dull the mine craft and guitar talk 😂 I love my children but I’m not designed to be with people 24/7 talking at me constantly 😂

Hmmm easy mistake to make.

In usual conditions, on average 50,000 people die every month in the UK. It's entirely possible that 2600 people died from something other than Covid19, although I'm not saying Covid19 deaths are being recorded accurately.

Just when you mention the death figures ..someone said earlier about all the people with heart problems not showing like they would expect, the numbers have decreased rapidly and my own daily rag has said the very same in regards to our health trust here ..I'm thinking now have all these people died with the virus and been recorded as something else ie heart problems ??

oh I feel for you, there’s nothing worse than having to drag that caffeine limit out 💔

I think it’s the after effects of the Easter weekend. We all crave some normalcy but it’s not there.

we got this 🙌🏻 I just stood out in the sun for 10 to get myself together. It’s bloody chilly but that vitamin d makes my mood lift

I actually said this to my husband yesterday. Because I think I read on here 1600 people on average die a day in the uk. So what I want to know is now in total what is it? All deaths are sad and these people aren’t just numbers but they’re flashing all these numbers at us but not putting it in perspective. There’s no doubt this is dangerous and nobody is risk free. Nobody actually can say they would survive if they got it but I wish they’d put the numbers into context. Some of these people were very poorly anyway so would have died unfortunately anyway. I hope that doesn’t sound too blunt and I’m sorry if I’ve upset anybody it’s hard to word it right!

That's my point exactly. Some weeks were lower in deaths in 2020 than in 2019,or if they were higher or would be by 50 deaths. It's obviously human lives we're talking about, but statistically 50 or 60 doesn't seem significant when you have 10,549 deaths (made up figure).

People die because of Covid, but like you said, these deaths might have happened regardless of the current situation (which is terrible, but I'm not one for causing panic and drama...

What I’m saying is that those who possibly would have died anyway are being classed as covid deaths when they might not be, therefore the figures for deaths no associated with covid are lower than they should be.
My concern is overall deaths not deaths caused by one or another reason

You can check the spreadsheet for details x

That’s unlikely in my opinion - this is 2,600 more than average, on top of the usual deaths expected in a week. The last stats (for week 13) had just under 500 deaths more than average not explained by coronavirus, with another 500 recorded as coronavirus related. Why are these extra apparently non-coronavirus deaths being recorded as increasing in correlation with deaths by (and the spread of) coronavirus?

That last line resonated me with me far too much! Seriously struggling with everyone being around 24/7 and not even being able to send them to soft play or something for an hour or so or pop out myself to a friends or family’s house.

I wonder when the soaps will run out of episodes. I’m not liking this two episodes a week nonsense from eastenders/Corrie (obviously they’re doing what they can to give us content for as long as possible). I really just want some sort of normality back!

Also wish my kids school would lay off a bit. They expect us to do 2/3 hours of ‘home learning’ a day. I’ve done practically non! Idk wtf I’m doing and my kids don’t take it seriously at all. I wish the head would be a bit more reassuring for those of us who are struggling to get it together cuz the main source of my anxiety at the moment is the kids and ‘home educating’ them. Feeling like im letting them down big time but at the same time, all kids are in the same boat so why should I feel bad? Literally makes me want to cry.

I’d love to take my walk alone today but I know that’s not going to happen. I feel really bad but you’ve said it right I’m just craving normality. Or at least a grandparent to take them to the park for an hour 😂

Literally just said this too.... missing the grandparents taking them out for a bit!

I think that’s what’s happening in some cases. To my knowledge, a doctor rules what a person died of, and with people dying at home/not being tested after death I think it’s easy to just record a death as whatever underlying condition if they’re not certain that coronavirus was a factor. I understand being cautious not to rule every death as coronavirus but the figures don’t make sense
