I think it's insulting to NHS workers that they are doing huge shifts and underpaid while lots of workers are on 80% pay sat at home doing nothing.
I think they need to set up some way for us to give back. The Wishlist was a great idea.

I think people just want to show appreciation but aren’t sure how. Other countries did this so it makes sense we’d follow suit. I agree that it can come off as condescending but at least people are trying to show appreciation even if it is just by clapping

God, I would LOVE to sell my soul to show my appreciation to the NHS.

They kept me going when my son was sick, they were SO great with him. He began to enjoy being in the hospital and told me once that the nurses were more fun than me.

I don’t know how they see what they see everyday and do what they do everyday but I have so much respect for them.

Of course not. But I'm shocked at the amount of people I know who on decent wages spend all their money on cars, holidays and other luxuries and have zero savings for a rainy day. Mortgage rates are so low that many could have saved up something.
Maybe it should be saving based . Most people I know who will benefit from it are retail workers on minimum wage living pay cheque to pay cheque. I’m working from home so still earning my wage but I don’t have a problem with those who absolutely can’t work from home getting help.

The concept of saving for a rainy day is not very common in the UK. Many people live on credit cards and buy even though they can't afford.

But what’s the solution in these circumstances? There is now a volunteer scheme so those who want to can do their bit too at least.

I’m glad those who took part in the clap got something positive out of it. It’s not my thing but what ever gives people comfort and a sense of unity during this time is all good. Some one across the road from me was very enthusiastic, good for them.
