Can anybody remember the storyline with Roy hitting Gary, I have zero memory of this

Here you go

In 2014, Roy had been on edge after suffering at the hands of intimidating teenage thugs. Meanwhile, at the same time, Gary decided to break into Roy's place for cash as he had heard he would be out for the evening.

However, in true soap style, Gary soon realised Roy was in fact home and the latter hit Gary over the head with a cricket bat, mistaking him for one of the teenage thugs. Roy tried to explain himself but instead was sent off with the police and was left frightened in his police cell ahead of a court case, facing a charge of assault.

The storyline caused a stir at the time with #FreeRoyCropper trending on Twitter, now X, at the time. Gary later apologised to Roy, also coming to his defence with the police where he lied pretending Roy only hit him once, and kind Roy later offered him a job working at the café.

Thanks, zero memory of this and I’ll guarantee I watched it as have been a viewer since the mid 70s 😳

This. Also I didn’t “skip all my granny’s shite”. I’ve saved bits that bring back memories of my grandparents. Some are in boxes, some are on display in my house. Same with my sister and cousins.
Me too, have all sorts and of lovely mementoes from people that mattered to me, most people I know have similar, it’s very normal

Seen this on imdb regarding Cruel Intentions

This movie heavily influenced the 2002 story-line in the long-running British soap opera Coronation Street (1960) in which Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) makes a bet with Bev Unwin (Susie Blake) to sleep with Roy Cropper (David Neilson).

Who knew 😄
Had to google, a film that totally passed me by (and the reviews make it sound terrible anyway)

I have yet to read a positive comment anywhere regarding the Lauren/Roy storyline
It's so far beyond believable Lauren was a totally unlikeable character that nobody cares about
anyway
are we heading for another "free the weatherfield one" 🙄

The ITV marketing or someone within ITV are sending out these Roy Cropper Is Innocent t-shirts, obviously hoping to generate a nationwide #FreeTheWeatherfieldOne type of hype

The 'Roy Cropper is Innocent' stuff is really lazy. They are trying to generate the same buzz as Dierdre and it's not happening because it's such a ridiculous storyline. They also tried it with Sally. Gail and Yazmeen were innocently locked up too.

I would say Corrie need some new ideas but having seen some of the upcoming storylines I'm not sure that's a good idea either.

The whole Roy storyline is just rubbish, nobody seems to be really looking for Lauren surely they would be doing something online etc and looking a bit further afield than the precinct. Also a complete stranger just being invited to stay in your home because they say they are Lauren’s mother, too far fetched and didn’t see the phone light on when she was recording, all just nonsense

Just watching Friday’s episode, what is Leanne doing? Is that person supposed to be an online life coach?

Hope Roy did do it and he goes on a frenzy killing Nina, billy, Daisy and Sean with some kitchen utensil. Only for Mary to sus him and reveal she’s a secret billionaire and her and Brian will whisk him off to a private island to avoid prosecution. It might seem far fetched but still more likely than most of the tit going on currently

I feel like they’ve messed up with the Lauren storyline. It could have been good and at first I was interested in where she’d gone/what had happened to her but everything with Roy is annoying me and there’s not enough focus on what’s actually happened to Lauren. They’ve no evidence she’s been murdered at all yet they’ve charged him with her murder? I know people can be charged with no body IRL, but then there’s usually some kind of evidence. They have nothing. And Roy has always been a bit different, but he’s never been stupid which is how they’re making him out to be. Yet another storyline that had potential that Corrie have made a mess of.

I was really hoping this storyline would be some kind of issue for Lauren and maybe Selina being involved etc etc. The whole Roy thing is bordering on ridiculous. How many people can be accused of murder and go to prison in one street plus it's just bordering on a pastiche. Same old story, different characters.
