He came into my workplace once and I kinda expected him to be the slightly dippy humorous character he usually plays. He was actually pretty chilly and miserable, he seems a bit like that on panel shows too, and not particularly funny outside his acting roles. Maybe he doesn’t really like that persona or resents it in some way.Yeah I watched him presenting the baftas(I think) and he was trying to do that "only doing this for the money" style a la Ricky Gervais.
It worked for Ricky at the Golden Globes for many reasons but Richard Ayoade just came across miserable and uncharismatic and ungrateful.
Award shows are self-indulgent but it's light entertainment, i don't know why he had to bring the mood down with his whole "this is so stupid and beneath me" style.
Made me dislike him a bit tbh because there would have been people looking forward to watching the show and he was just being a dick about it.
In general I tend towards leftwing, but there’s a whole morass of leftish privileged R4 esque comedians who are just utterly bland and deluded about their influence. At some point it seemed like they had the cheek to present themselves as moral arbiters, or social crusaders, but it’s all really just smug self-regard.
