Celebrity chefs

1
My sort of thread.
I miss cooking (as I'm in a care home), but my late husband was a wonderful cook and I have a huge notebook, full of 25 years of recipes, of his. My daughter now has book and (bless her) tries her hardest to make a good meal to bring for me.
Favourite chefs/cooks;Keith Floyd, Hairy Bikers, James Martin, Rick Stein. I cannot stand Mary Berry (too twee for me) or Nigella.
I seem to watch the Food Channel all the time and can imagine what everything tastes like.
Anyone here watch Diners, Drive-ins and Dives with Guy Fieri? There was some tea about him but not sure if true or not. But I still watch the show because its interesting to see other chefs cook.

Yep I watch Triple D 😂 Guy is something else. Spill the tea 😱

Along the same lines, I really miss Ace of Cakes on Food Network. Loved that show 😭

Diners, Diners ins and Dives is a favourite of mine. I like Guy Fieri too even though he reminds me of a total early 2000s throw back!

Have you watched Man Vs Food? The older ones with Adam are the best. He was quite a sexy man imo but left because he lost weight and thought the premise of eating all that food was having a negative effect on his health (quite rightly). The new presenter doesn't have the same presence.

I'm off to find some Ina and Jeffery shows and I think I might try Ree Drummond too!

I matched on Tinder with Stein’s son Charlie years ago. We chatted on and off but never ended up meeting up and then I met my boyfriend so shut all my dating stuff down. That’s all I have to bring to the table here 😂 I’ll go back to lurking

Oooh was he hot? Off to google...

Another favourite of mine. Not only was Adam funny and entertaining, he really knows his food. I haven't seen new Man V Food as, like you, just can't take to the new presenter.

I love Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives too. I was still up at 2am last night and was so ready for bed but I had to finish the episode I was watching!

Sorry to break it to you Ina fans....

Ina Garten is basically the sweetest lady of the food scene, but it turns out that even she isn't as nice as she appears. In 2010, she turned down a 6-year-old superfan whose biggest wish was to meet his idol. The child was suffering from leukemia and asked to have a cooking session with Garten through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. She said no not just once, but twice.

I don’t know if you know the Allen’s - Darina Allen and her daughter in law Rachel Allen ?
Both have TV programs here in Ireland but I’m not sure how big they are or aren’t in the UK.
Their loved ones have had a number of brushes with the lay

Darina Allen’s husband and son of the business founder. There was uproar about his community service sentence
I’ve been to their cookery school - just before the first case came out and before Rachel took over. They both seemed lovely

I think Ramsay's well known for putting it about as well.

Pleasantly surprised to read in one of the older Celebrity goss threads that MPW is a nice bloke in person

There must be a few skeletons in Nigel Slaters cupboard, he gives off a very odd vibe

I bet there's some interesting stuff on Nigella knocking about
Have you read Toast by Nigel Slater. He had a very odd childhood too. I can see where the odd vibe stems from.

bloody hell thats messy isn’t it! I’ve heard of Rachel but not the rest of her family. Has it affected the cookery school?

We used to holiday in Cornwall years ago. My dad has met Rick Stein a fair few times and has always said lovely things about him.

I always think Simon Rimmer comes across as a decent guy. Just a hunch though, I don't know anyone who can confirm.
He is a nice fella. He has a long standing restaurant in Didsbury, Manchester which he is still passionate about. It’s where he made his roots. He owns a large drinking and eating establishment in the city centre and is often there with friends. I work with someone who is good friends with him. Him and his family live in a hip but more gritty suburb of Manchester (compared to Didsbury)
He also owns a couple of very good gastro pubs on the Wirral, which is where he is from. I’ve been a couple of times and he’s been sat at the bar having a pint with his local mates.

Oh my god, this is the thread for me. My other half and I absolutely love joking about celebrity chefs when they’re on tv. I was actually thinking of starting this same thread 😂 I have no gossip but many comments.

I love to hate Jamie O, some of his recipes are my go tos, but he pisses me off so much. It’s probably because his recipes require every piece of equipment in your kitchen and so it takes forever to wash up. The constant ‘wazzy wazzy woo woo’. Or the bad service you always seemed to get in Jamie’s Italian restaurants. Or when he came to Rotherham on his turkey twizzler crusade 🙄 Gennaro on the other hand.. adore him.

Nigella is an icon. No debates. Absolutely love her shows when it shows her raiding the fridge at 1am in a silky nightie.

Nigel Slater’s Wikipedia page is an eye opener. He’s so pompous, cracks me up when he posts on twitter about the foxes in his garden or something though. I always read his tweets to my other half and say guess who - he nails it every time. His ‘simple suppers’ are absolutely ridiculous, but we watch him anyway.

Rick Stein and his gingham M&S shirts, god love him. He really is Alan Partridge come to life but his long weekend shows are classic, love his unPC comments, always going on about “the Greeks” and “the French”. We got engaged in one of the cities he went to, so we went to the restaurant he visited to celebrate and it was fantastic - so we owe him. Glad to hear he’s a nice person in real life. His son looks like a total dick though.

Did anyone watch Gordon, Gino and Fred? Loved that show. Gino is hilarious, and one of his recipes is my favourite ever pasta dish.

Delia. What a queen. She makes Mary Berry and her terrifying fingers look common as muck 😂

Gregg Wallace.. sigh. He’s such a goon on Masterchef. His factory shows and the shopping ones are just not as good compared to his pure comedy value on MC. #ButteryBiscuitBase John Torode is irrelevant. Thanks for the ‘John the Toad’ comments. I’m stealing them 😂

Thoughts on Hairy Bikers? If you’ve not tried their sausage casserole, you’ve not lived 😂 their Baltic tv show was great and they’re actually likeable chefs. I’d be gutted if they turned out to be awful people.

The absolute god tier of celebrity chefs however has to be Miss Ina
She was the first ever TV cooking show I watched religiously. I love her and Jeffrey’s relationship, you can tell they absolutely adore each other and that’s so cute. Her house in the Hamptons is to die for. I love how she cracks eggs and throws the shells in the sink, no doubt for some minion to clean up after her. When she gets her gay friends round to do floral arrangements to match the ‘casual’ linen napkins you know it’s gonna be a good episode. Every recipe has soooo much booze and about ten sticks of butter 😂 She is my fancy witch role model, when she says ‘store bought is fine’ you know it’s not really fine, and I always buy in the GOOD VANILLA for baking. Her lockdown content has been perfection and she has so many celebrity friends. If I could have dinner cooked for me by any celebrity chef, it would be her. I would be in awe 😍

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to get this off my chest 😂

Mary Berry’s “terrifying” fingers are as a result of contracting childhood polio

Did I imagine it but wasn't Simon rimmer linked to Gemma while they were on strictly and that story came out of two contestants having a one night stand and they both said deny all knowledge then Simon went out of his way to make fun of the accusations and posted pics of him his mrs and Gemma trying to show all best friends...

This is my ideal thread!!! Like a lot of people have said I have many opinions but no actual knowledge! Although my hubby went to school with Garry Rhodes he said he was just another school kid!! I loathe Gordon Ramsey and his entitled family. Opening restaurants rinsing them for all the money and then hard working staff on the dole!! And his wife is not gorgeous and glamorous. It must be like shagging an ironing board. All that stuff during lockdown pissed me off.And he puts some sausages in the oven in gravy and calls it a hot pot. Heinous!! And Jamie Oliver took his eye off the ball with his restaurants letting his obnoxious brother in law who knew nothing about running restaurants run it. We went one time and it was good interesting dishes with seasonal ingredients. The next time we went it was burgers margarita pizzas and dry old panettone.

Have met Nigella and lots of book signings. Very engaging and her facial enhancements are very good. She is flawless.

Adore Ina. How she has her shirts made to measure, how her and Jeffery love Paris and their apartment there. Did you know Jeffery is a retired Yale Dean? She doesn’t mention it much in her latest shows 🙄

I do like Jamie Oliver. Although he makes too much mess and the olive oil...on everything.

I enjoy Rick Steins style, always has a note book, always quoting a piece of literature. After watching his Road to Mexico series we went and did a section of his travels in Mexico. Brilliant.

I always assumed it was arthritis.
