Could watch nigel slater all day. Very down to earth and unassuming. No ego or show boating.

I also like hairy bikers recipes and their style if delivery/presenting in terms of cooking advice and recipes.

Met gary rhodes many many years ago and he was really nice. I mentioned being rubbish at a particular dish and he asked for my email address and sent me a detailed step by step recipe. And it worked!!

How lovely to hear that about Gary Rhodes. :-)

Oh we love that Fred Siriex show, both seasons have been incredible. I know it's his profession but I love how he talks about the service as well as the food - both are equally important to me. Wish I had some goss on him, or his former boss - Michel Roux Jnr but I don't. Does anyone else have anything?
Just found this thread and it is fab!

I know Fred IRL, he is lovely. I don't know him very well, just through work. He is really passionate about getting young people interested in a career in hospitality and often mentors them, gives talks and advice etc
Well he did before lockdown!
Really sweet, no airs or graces and very willing to help.

Only thing that surprised me is that he is a lot shorter than you'd think!!!

I've just googled and it says he's 5'10". I always thought he was well over 6 feet, 6'2, 6'3" or more.

Looks good in those swimming trunks though!

Hate to break it to you, but I'm 5'10 and he is shorter than me by a good few inches!!!
I always thought he was over 6ft too. Maybe they give him a step to stand on behind that podium on first dates!!!
But on the plus side his eyes are just as twinkly IRL!!!

Thoughts on other chefs that I like

Love Rick Stein. I know a lot in Cornwall might not like him, but I can only judge by what I have seen of him on TV. I love how enthusiastic and interested he is in the local food and culture of wherever he visits.

Love Angela Hartnett any time I watch her, seems like such a warm person. Plus I ate in Murano once on a visit to London and it was one of my favourite meals ever.

Jamie Oliver might be annoying at times, but there is no doubting his passion for food, or the fact that he has a conscience. All those campaigns he did, no-one made him do it, and he would have saved himself a lot of trouble if he didn't bother, but you can tell he actually cares.

In Ireland, I love Neven Maguire. Anyone who has ever had anything to do with him has universally said he is the nicest guy ever. Wife and I got a stay in MacNean with dinnner as a wedding gift, it was so nice.

Didn't look fancy to me. We just walked in and not surprisingly there were only two tables taken but the prices were a piss take. We went up the road to a small little pub and had the most delicious fish n chips with mushy peas for £6.50.

It must have been his Cafe or one of those. Outrageous prices!
For that kind of money it would want to be Turbot or Lobster and chips!
